Help me get rid of lines around my eyes!

Please! I am only 30 and have quite bad lines. I live abroad in a city with very high pollution levels and since being here my eye lines and skin in general have got worse. Can you recommend any products, natural or otherwise, or anything that might help? Nothing I need to go to a business for like Botox, please! (Too difficult to ensure reliable businesses when your language skills are as basic as mine!)

Vitamin C and SPF 50 in the morning

Retinol at night and well hydrated skin

I think they are the golden 4 products really - it depends on your budget what you want to spend.

Vasaline under the eyes at night to seal in the moisturiser so it doesn't rub off in the night.

Rosieposie101 · 07/02/2022 09:38

I will spend anything at this point 😂

Retinol and Vitamin C, are these creams? Can you recommend any brands? I'm really clueless. Also SPF 50 - is this moisturiser with added SPF 50?

I'm hopeless. The Vaseline part I understand though, so will do that too! Grin

Daily SPF, collagen supplements and shitloads of water help mine a bit…. and maybe botox when you come back for a visit Grin

Stumpedasatree · 07/02/2022 09:51

@Somebodylikeyew which collagen supplements do you take please?

Thanks

I put Aquaphore on top on everything else I use and it cosmetically makes a big difference.
It doesn’t look shiny (well for the first 20-30 mins it does). I put it on over SPF and tinted moisturiser during the day and also at night on top of whatever ‘active’ I use.

Here's what I would advise:

Day time:
Your usual face wash
Vit C serum (e.g. www.cultbeauty.com/sunday-riley-c.e.o.-15-vitamin-c-brightening-serum/11588282.html)
Something anti-oxidant/anti-pollution (I love these: www.cultbeauty.com/drunk-elephant-d-bronzi-anti-pollution-sunshine-drops-30ml/13310277.html?)
Moisturiser with SPF: www.cultbeauty.com/paula-s-choice-defense-essential-glow-moisturizer-spf-30/11896676.html

Night time:
Cream or balm cleanser (Elemis or Liz Earle are great)
Hyaluronic Acid to help retain moisture (www.cultbeauty.com/the-inkey-list-hyaluronic-acid-serum-30ml/12208006.html?)
Chemical exfoliant serum (www.cultbeauty.com/sunday-riley-good-genes-glycolic-acid-treatment-1.7-fl.-oz./12901169.html)
Retinol based night cream (www.cultbeauty.com/medik8-advanced-night-restore/11899389.html?autocomplete=productsuggestion)

A basic routine would consist of cleanse, tone, moisturise and SPF in that order. Moisturiser and SPF should be two separate products.

Applying an eye cream/ serum would slot in-between toning and moisturising. I'd recommend NIOD FECC as an effective eye treatment.

I'd also recommend Caroline Hirons book to help explain all things skincare

Somebodylikeyew · 07/02/2022 21:22

Nature’s Aid marine collagen are the ones i take- I got them from Waitrose though so not exactly Harley Street! Grin I do think they make a difference…

How bad are the lines OP? Have you thought out microneedling? I have some lines on my forehead, one deep one across and some shorter, finer lines. I've had 1 session of microneedling so far. The lines are already less visible and I have another 2 appointments to go. The doctor did say that the lines wont disappear completely and I'll probably need botox to eliminate them. I'll see how they look after I finish the course before deciding on botox.

Watch some Nadine Baggott videos. She has one about eye products specifically and says this is the one product she is asked most about. Upshot- very few specific eye products do anything that your serum won't, and serums can generally be taken up and around the eye area because of their formulation. For puffy eyes a caffeine based cream will help.

She maintains skin "needs" only 5 products

Cleanser- anything you like, any price point, it goes down the sink
Vit C - morning- your protection against pollution and UVA light.
Moisture- anything you like. It only needs to moisturise.
SPF always of at least 30 and separate from your moisturizer

Evening
Cleanser
Retinol -start slowly, build up
Moisturizer

Any other serum and treatment for your skin type etc as you wish, but those are the holy grail products. What I like about her videos/advice is she keeps it simple, and gives price points from £5 to £200. (And tells you more often than not, that the difference is minimal)

I've never used collagen but for NB (and others) the jury's out on it both used topically (any cream purporting to boost collagen etc) and internally in the form of supplements. Some people do think it makes a difference.
