A complete new wardrobe of clothes with one caveat

You can get a complete new wardrobe of clothes, all paid for, on the condition that you give up every single item of clothing you own in exchange. Would you do it?

My mum regularly used to say "oh I'd like to throw away everything and start again!" but I don't think I could. I have some things I really really like that I don't think I'd be able to buy now. Nothing terribly valuable, no designer gear, but some things I'd be sad to lose.

PS just pretend there's no issue with chucking clothes out, this isn't a "green" discussion

I'd do it. My only bending of the rules would be getting some of the same gym gear and running shoes and insisting that things fitted perfectly and were made of high quality materials and finish. The rest can bugger off.

Definitely not, I really like my clothes. I'd quite like a walk-in wardrobe to store them all in though so I can see what I have and have space for everything to be stored nicely!

No, it’s taken me years to find bras that fit properly.
Or would I be allowed to buy the same bras again afterwards in addition to my new wardrobe?
In fact, probably no… I’m very boring. If I find clothes that are perfect I buy the same thing in 3 different colours.

I’m 31 if that helps your generational hypothesis.

No way.

I like my clothes, and am about as far from a fashionista as it is possible to get, so have no desire for a whole new wardrobe.

I'm in! I have plenty of nice clothes but I'd love the chance to start again with an unlimited budget.

Perfectlystill · 07/02/2022 21:18

No, I have some really nice clothes now. If I were younger maybe I would? But I've been able to afford more expensive things in my 40s and love them.

JesusMaryAndJosephAndTheWeeDon · 08/02/2022 14:17

To go against your age hypothesis, I am definitely more tempted to say yes now than I would have been 10 or more years ago!

I have some lovely good quality clothes, wool/silk/cashmere, well made good clothes that I love and would struggle to replace for the same kind of budget. I also have things that are sentimental. But I can't fit in most of it now, or no longer feel comfortable with things like very shirt skirts or tops need to be worn braless or can't accommodate a supportive bra. With perimenopause looming I am beginning to realise that many of these items may never be worn again.

The clothes I actually wear I'm mostly not that attached to or could easily replace.

I'd absolutely bite your hand off.
I have some great things in my wardrobe, but 90% of it is dross and I can't shut my drawers!

BusySittingDown · 08/02/2022 18:11

No, I wouldn't because it would be my luck that I'd get the money, throw out all of my old clothes and there'd be absolutely nothing in the shops that I liked! Grin

WhatLiesAhead · 08/02/2022 19:08

I reckon I'd be shopping and constantly saying "I want some blue trousers, just like my old blue trousers" or "why don't they do that shade of green jumper anywhere anymore" so I'm pretty sure I'd still say no.

As for shoes, I really hate shoe shopping! I love the shoes I have. So I tend to keep the same for years and years. I have 6 pairs of DMs - 2 Standard lace ups (blue and brown fur lined) 1 Chelsea boots in Oxblood, 1 knee high in dark red, 1 purple brogues and 1 black sandals. All but 1 pair came from TKMaxx, and I know they would be irreplaceable.

Do I would never give them up!
