Bra straps falling down

Is there a way to stop bra straps from falling down without tightening all the straps so tight I can't breath?

Stand tall and think about your posture. If it's just one side, it might be a tightness in your back/ shoulder and a physio appointment might help.
Hunching over screens makes lots of people really round shouldered.

Bra straps fall down if you're wearing the wrong size. Most women used to wear the wrong size (the tendency for everyone to wear a B or C cup and just pick a bigger back size to accommodate the breasts if the C was too small still exists, especially when people buy their bras at clothing shops which only stock a small range of cup sizes) and possibly still do.

You can get bras with racing back styles, which shouldn't fall down - or multiway straps you can wear crossed at the back. Balconette bras have the straps quite far apart and are more prone to slipping off the shoulder, so avoid those if you have an issue with the straps slipping... Its quite likely your band is too big though, as that sets the straps too far apart.

dementedpixie · 06/02/2022 10:58

I agree you should check your bra size as often it's the back size being too big that can cause straps to fall down

QQQs · 06/02/2022 14:03

Thank you , I think I might just go with the bra strap holder for now that @meltingmyhead recommended and next time I shop for bras I'll be more careful with the sizing.

I have this problem on the right. Have regular measure and fit. Am 34,DD have to use a back extender on some, they are tight, So the back isn't too big. M &Smade me 36DD but the cups were under and digging in my armpits.completely wrong

BusterGonad · 08/02/2022 08:57

You are definitely wearing the wrong size bra. I bet you've got too big a back and too small cups.

QQQs · 08/02/2022 12:57

@BusterGonad ( great name! Grin) I think maybe to big a back size - I try to be comfortable but I think that's why I might well have too big a size. All so much more uncomfortable/difficult since gaining weight!

Wrong size and/or the wrong style possibly? Some bras have more wider set straps than others do.

CointreauVersial · 08/02/2022 13:04

This happens to me if I wear a balcony bra.

The design of them means the straps are further apart, so I stick to full cup or plunge.

MyVisionsComeFromSoup · 08/02/2022 13:05

I have narrow shoulders and wide set boobs, and suffered for years with straps falling down. I agree that band size and style is massively important + I've found that some Elodie bras which have the straps attached further towards the centre of the cup (rather than at the very outside like balconette bras do) help keep the straps in place

Lottieskeeper · 08/02/2022 13:13

I always have this problem. I've tried smaller backs and larger cups but end up feeling squeezed with empty cups!

I've found a free solution though: i cut off the little ribbon strips they put in the shoulders of clothes that always hang out in an embarrassing fashion. And tie them between the adjuster bits of the straps and it keeps the straps up perfectly, been doing this for the past 15 years. Makes bras a little awkward to put on but much better than hoiking straps all day.

Thanks! 😂 Generally if you're a size 12 you wear a 32 back, 14=34 back, 16=36 back etc. I'm a 14 to 16 and wear a 34 back.

AnguaResurgam · 08/02/2022 13:51

Measure your actual ribcage to get the right size back you wouldn't wear a 34 inch waistband if you measured 29, becaucause od gaping and slippage, so don't do it higher up either!

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 08/02/2022 14:22

Couple of drawing pins through the straps into the fleshy bits of the shoulders.

Don't do this!

Pigtailsandall · 08/02/2022 14:43

A right size/shape bra shouldn't fall down. I recently made my mom get measured for bras.... practically forced her. She was wearing 36B which is what she's been wearing since 1977. She was a 32E.

My mum wears a 38B or C, she definitely isn't but I really wouldn't be able to get her measured. She'd never accept its wrong! 😂

Hi OP,
Yes you may be wearing the wrong size bra but just as likely that you have narrow or sloping shoulders. I have very narrow shoulders and use these Bra Strap Cushions from Bravissimo. They are the only things which keep the straps of my perfectly fitted bras from falling down and annoying the cr*p out of me. Grin
