Under dress slip

I've purchased a couple of dresses on eBay - attached pics. I usually wear dresses that are not see through Grin but really liked these and they were a great price.

They are not actually see through but I definitely need something underneath.

Won't be wearing the check one til it's summer but might wear the other out of an evening - meaning it's my birthday soon and I might actually go out for a meal!

But what to wear underneath? I know you can buy slips in M&S but I want something quite long.

Can anyone advise on undergarments??

The M&S ones come in different lengths now you can get one easily long enough for that one!

Ah ok, may have to take a trip on the weekend. Thanks!

I would buy the full length slips from M&S - they come in black or nude
I was amazed at how lovely they felt and also how well they made the dress hang - the full length ones gone in different lengths as well - well worth the money imho

THe M&S slip comes in lots of lengths - the 35" one is maxi length

I think they are called Cool Comfort Slip - £20 , and they do a similar version double pack for £20

I have a large m&s near me but they never have them in - I ordered them all online - the cool comfort ones have adjustable straps as well which was helpful and you can wear them either way round - one side has a sort of lace trimmed round front & the other side is a plain v neck

If you aren't an Amazon-hater, that makes it very easy

mizu · 04/02/2022 20:15

Ooh yes, the cool comfort one looks great. Ok, so M&S IS the place to go Grin

Although 35" is definitely not maxi length. Not on me anyway at 5 ft 7". I wanted something longer than M&S are offering I think.

I might have unpicked the lining from another dress (to be fair, it was a cheap dress and the lining was only sewn in on the shoulders) to make an all-purpose under slip. Have a look in your wardrobe and see what's there?

mizu · 04/02/2022 20:47

Machien yes, I did think about taking them to my local alterations place ......

I have a few, all from M&S, in different lengths and colours.

Every single dress looks better over a slip, the lines are much cleaner.

They are nice dresses. For me it depends how see through a dress really is. I quite relaxed about a “legs silhouette” showing in the light (except perhaps at work) in the warmer weather.

It sounds as if black would be your best bet. Remember the bias will reduce the length of any slip when you have it on, so best to try on.

But OP would a half slip be an option? Personally, l’m not keen on multiple straps (slip and bra) on my shoulders.

mizu · 05/02/2022 08:52

Starlight a half slip is a definite option. I will need to try on. Not sure about two lots of straps either!

I bought a couple of slips (or petticoats - how old fashioned that sounds) last time I went to M and S. They stop my dresses sticking to my legs when I am wearing tights. There was more choice in the shop than before so I think demand has increased.

StarlightLady · 05/02/2022 09:52

OP, give it a go! They sit comfortably on the waist and you don’t do knots when you get in a twist getting undressed.
