Suggestions for covering dark eyelids

The area above my eyes (& under) is quite dark and makes me look tired. I’ve tried using concealer on the upper eye area but it looks wrinkly. I’ve tried various eyeshadows but I’m not used to wearing eyeshadow and I can’t get the colour or the application right. It also tends to emphasise any wrinkly areas.
I’m 46 & trying to find make up that works for me now.

Can anyone suggest a product that will help disguise the darkness & not look wrinkly? I prefer a more natural make up look but am thinking I need a bit more help as I get older!

I’m 44 and have the same problem. My eyelids have always been dark. Not found anything that really helps unfortunately

Eyelid primer before a bit of concealer, might help it stay on a bit better?

I do this, followed by finishing power, before putting my eyeshadow on, and it seems to work ok.

Would it be worth having a makeup session at a department store?
One of the best I ever had was at a Trish McEvoy counter - so natural, and made me look like me but just better!
I bought two products immediately, and they are excellent. I also have dark shadows…worsening with age.

YouTube tutorials are also very helpful.

I have very bad pigmentation around my eyes. On the eyelids themselves I use maybeline colour tattoo (cream) eyeshadow. I tend to use beige or slightly darker colours. I use colour corrector and then concealer on the rest of the eye area. I find using a light moisturiser before stops it looking wrinkly. But I do have very dry skin

I used to use something called LemonAid by Benefit. It’s an eyelid primer but I use to tap it on my eyelids and use it on its own. Defo worked at making them look brighter

I have this and I use a mauve coloured liquid concealer. Just a few dots, then blended it, not applied like an eyeshadow. it was a makeup artist who suggested this. It works great for me. Bobbi Brown concealer is good for under eye.

Littlemiss74 · 04/02/2022 11:52

@Deux where is the mauve concealer from please?

I only apply concealer on my lower lid area (I use IT cosmetics undereye concealer because it doeesn’t crinkle). My upperlids, pigmentation wise, are really dark almost like I have applied eyeshadow. So I play on that by adding eye primer, then a tiny bit of cream shadow that looks just like my own colour, and blending eye colour on top.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I just can’t get my head around what colour if any to use on my eyes i.e if I should go for a lighter shadow to brighten them or a darker one to kind of cover the already dark bits. My eyes are a bit hooded too so not much lid visible iyswim. I feel like they are getting smaller the older I get which is a shame as they are very deep brown and used to be my favourite feature.
As an aside, does anyone know what eye make up generally might help define them more? I’ve tried an eyeliner on the bottom lid but I think it might just make the darkness even more pronounced.

@Ozanj that sounds good, which eyeshadow do you use please? I’ve wasted so much money buying the wrong things & sometimes even after a beauty consultant has recommended something

True. I have wasted so much money on this too. ELF or No7 shadows work well on my skin. I like the eyeshadow sticks nyx do too but have to use a pallette to take the colour out as I’m old and applying directly stretches my skin too much lol

Urban decay eye primer doesn’t crease and is a neutral shade. It will brighten the eyelid but won’t dramatically change the colour, so should be quite subtle.

@Littlemiss74 I used to use one by Estée Lauder called Barely Mauve but they then discontinued it. I did search for quite a while but found one in Sainsburys Boutique range
