Hi.
So in my tireless goal to achieve hair like pic 1. I always end up with hair like pic 2.

So I really don't understand if I am doing something wrong. If my hair just won't go the way I want. Or if the hairdresser is bad. Any advice?
This second pic is unstyled and air dried so not great but u get the idea.
I actually think she did an awful job this time generally.... thoughts appreciated!!

And now I've straighten it you can see the damage better I think.
I really don't know what to do. I will go back to her to fix but how do I sort this out long term. Am I just not able to achieve what I am aiming for??

I think it looks quite nice?

intelligentPutty · 03/02/2022 20:12

I just realised the photo needs to be in the kitchen to see how different it is...
sorry to keep reposting!! Smile

I don't think it's radically different from the photo of how you want your hair colour wise. The base colour probably needs more depth of colour I think. The cut isn't the same at all though.

intelligentPutty · 03/02/2022 20:41

Yeah. I guess the cut is completely different. But the colour just feels like a layer of blond on the brown.

I think you need a darker base colour - could run some level 5 demi through as lowlights.
It's not a bad attempt but the lighter highlights are too blocky -

Mundra · 04/02/2022 11:48

No idea about hair colours... but your hair is lovely and shiny!
And where does that little Lilliput door go to? [nosy]

GiveMyHeadPeaceffs · 04/02/2022 12:04

@Mundra or OP might just be very tall! Grin

intelligentPutty · 04/02/2022 12:34

I am most definitely not very tall!! It's a little under stairs cupboard. I always bang my head on it!
Thanks for advice on darker base colour. I do think it's blocky. I am going back for her to try to fix it. She will run toner through. But maybe I'll show her the picture again and see what she thinks can be done to get to that look. (After my isolation for covid ends (on day 4 now).

I have a balayage, which is what your target picture shows I think. I have found it looks lovely when heat styled into curls/waves, but my natural texture or straight not so good, can't really articulate why. But for that reason I am getting it dyed back to my natural very dark brown to coverup the highlights, I can't be bother heat styling all the time.

I agree with PP that the photo appears to have a darker base than you do, which means the ribbons of lighter hair stand out less, and that the photos show far longer hair, also effecting the overall look.

JanuarySun · 04/02/2022 13:32

A darker base colour and fewer/less chunky highlights would make it more like the photo.

BusterGonad · 04/02/2022 13:37

Cut wise, I think your hair needs some choppyness to it. It looks all one length to me which makes it look like a school girl haircut rather than the original photo of what you want.

jackstini · 04/02/2022 13:58

I think it needs bigger slices rather than highlights and more milk chocolate/caramel shades
Plus it needs layers and waves to look as good as the pic

Is it the same hair as this pic? I used that one with my hairdresser before and she got it, but mine was longer, layered and wavy

intelligentPutty · 04/02/2022 14:20

Yeah. That looks like the same picture. I might try and curl to see what it does.
What do you mean by 'bigger slices'.
I think the cut is going to make a difference too isn't it. I need it a bit longer first though. Before she cuts choppy layers into it?

You need fewer highlights and a darker base colour. You also need a more scattered start point as otherwise it looks like it's grown out already. It looks like she's trying to replicate balayage with highlights.
She can't do this. You need someone else

inheritancetrack · 04/02/2022 18:51

Not enough contrast and it looks like you have summer bleached hair which has just grown out. Its really a very average bob I'm afraid. Maybe better if you added some curl?

intelligentPutty · 04/02/2022 19:34

Yeah. It is so average. I paid 120 for my last appt. (Incl a £20 olaplex treatment) but I really really don't feel like I have a £100 job.
Balayage is when it's free painted on right.
It's so hard to find a decent hairdresser. All the good ones are booked or not even taking people on a waiting list.
And how do you even find someone who is good!!
Will try out curling it too. Maybe that'll help.
Confused
Thanks for the replies. Really appreciate the input.

It's trial and error or recommendations - I feel your pain.
I actually think the left side is better than the right (it's a very uneven application generally ) the left has more distinct highlights, you just need more separation between them, a darker base and a staggered root line. The right side is very uniform highlights.
