Bleach breakage help

I've got naturally dark, fine hair but started getting blonde highlights about a year ago to hide the greys. I love the colour and generally, my hair still looks quite glossy. However, in the last few months I've noticed a lot of breakage on the top layer. It lays flat so not too noticeable but I'm worried I won't have any hair left soon!

Please can you let me know your tips for caring for bleached hair and avoiding breakage? Conditioning treatments, combs, hair wraps....anything!

I would add that I have to wash my hair daily as it's very oily and with it also being fine it looks like an oil slick by day 2. I'm sure this and the almost daily drying doesn't help!

Best thing I ever did for my damaged hair was buy a Dyson Airwrap. If you can't spring for this, get the Dyson hairdryer. Hands down had a much bigger impact on improving the health of my hair than any treatment I tried.

You can use all the treatments you want but you will never be able to reverse the damage bleaching causes completely. What you can do is dry your hair at a more controlled temperature which will improve the health of your scalp and your hair. A healthy scalp grows healthy hair.

If you can, try and train your hair so you're only washing it every other day at most. Your scalp won't appreciate being scrubbed like that on the daily!!

With washing everyday I'm not sure if this will help but when I have my hair bleached I never dry it with the hairdryer, I'll wash it the night before and leave it to dry overnight. I will still straighten it but found that just using one type of heat did help with the breakages. Alberto Balsam conditioner was always really good on mine as well and I would leave it on a couple of minutes and brush my hair with the conditioner on before rinsing , I did the whole ask the hairdressers and got sold some ridiculously priced mask that basically just made my hair greasy!

Are you using olaplex?

Also redken extreme anti snap treatment before combing/brushing when wet.. I also really rate their conditioner.

Try really hard to wash/dry less often. The more you wash the more oil your hair produces.

You should never go to bed with wet hair. It's at its weakest and will break much more. Particularly if it's bleached. This is what a hairdresser told me.

You should get a good quality conditioner and leave it in for no more than 20 mins. After this, the hair loses moisture rather than gains it. I'm currently using Aussie hair rescue sos in a tub (club card discount helps).

My hairdresser told me that it was protein that was needed rather than moisture if you're experiencing a high level of breakage. I used the series Expert by Loreal (The one on the yellow/gold bottle) and it made SUCH as difference. It's available from Feelunique/Lookfantastic etc

@MrsWidgerysLodger mine said the same and recommended keratase absolut blond oil but then next time I saw her said I can't use too much as it Damages more and I need to buy another product.

Also take vitamin B.

Thanks everyone. I will try Olaplex and a heat protecting spray i think. I'm due at the hairdressers again in a few days so a bit nervous about more damage!
