Skincare for 50+ complete novice

I've been reading various threads on here to try to get the basics but I'm still confused/overwhelmed by all the products.

To summarise - don't often wear make up and hopelessly out of date... Skincare - basic to say the least though the last couple of years DD has been buying me no7 protect serum and moisturiser and I go through spells of using it then stopping... a friend seemed fairly nonplussed about No7 products and tbh they aren't that cheap.

I'm now really noticing my age and sun damage - age spots, wrinkles, uneven skin tone, eye bags, dark circles and am peri menopausal too.

Is something like Skin + me a good way to go?
The cost doesn't seem that high given the price of serums etc on the high street

What else would be a good option in terms of daily skincare and sun protection? Needs to not be too faffy as I'll give up too easily 😳

I'm soon going to be 42. I've only ever done really basic skincare but recently I have started using Hyaluronic serum morning and night. I think it has made a massive difference to the surface of my skin and my makeup 'sits' a lot better now.
My morning skincare is:
Serum
moisturiser
Origins brightening eye cream.
Night time is the same but I use a face scrub to get my face really clean and an overnight eye cream instead.

Daily spf. I can recommend La Roche Possay spf50. I’m also in peri so good for the weirdness that can come with that. You can get it from Boots or online. I apply it over moisturiser, every morning, when I remember.

So I am 44 and been using dermatica for about 7 months and have noticed a huge improvement. I was prescribed tretenoin with clindamycin and niacinamide as I still have acne. I do alternative nights as find it quite drying. I use Charlotte Tilbury eye and miracle cream in the day and alternate nights. I use Helios SPF 50. I used to use no 7 and thought it was good but tretenoin is better.

Thanks all

I really do need to put a little more effort in.

@Rupertpenrysmistress - how do you find Dermatica - is it a good service or have you had any issues?

I've seen a mixed bag of views on which is better Dermatica of Skin&me and I haven't found anything negative about being able to cancel so far - I do like the sound of a fairly simple regime without too many products etc and tbh I think the No7 formula seems to have changed - seems to have a strong fragrance now that I never noticed before.

I'm thinking I might give Skin&me a go and invest in a good spf, then when I've used up my current moisturiser, I'll look at options for that

I can't comment on skin&me but can on dermatica. I have contacted them with skin concerns related to my treatment and receive swift responses. I order alternate months as use alternate nights so very reasonable cost.

I also tried out the Boots option to analyse your ski and recommend products on line...

It recommended 4 serums and treatments totalling around £100 in addition to moisturiser and spf - I know there are usually offers like 3 for 2, but it's still a lot of faff putting different serums on them waiting before adding the next one.

I'm thinking £25 a month seems very reasonable now.

And Dermatica is even cheaper... do they do the referral codes etc too? If so do you want to share?

Vitamin c and spf in the morning.
Retinol/tret at night.
Keep it nice and simple!

Keep it simple. I use products from Q+A. Not expensive, British and very effective. Hyaluronic serum does make a difference.
