I’m post meno. Skin a bit dry but generally ok. I’m at a loss on make up removers and cleansing. I just use a mild soap and a moisturiser ever day. I know…..

I don’t have much time at night but need to remove make up and clean my face. What can I use? Needs to be cheap! There are too many products to pick.

My sister uses a linen cloth thing? Do you have to wash it every days? I don’t want to use cotton wool.

I am clueless. I have good skin but now I am getting older I think I need to take care of it more. Plus I have have a tiny hard blocked pore I can’t get rid of and is driving me mad!

Look up Nadine Baggot on FB or YouTube she's good

I was you a few months ago. I use a creamy cleanser which you put on dry skin then wash off with warm water, it's a lush one but I can't see it online. I follow with this www.lookfantastic.com/the-inkey-list-polyglutamic-acid-serum-30ml/12211787.html?affil=thgppc&switchcurrency=GBP&shippingcountry=GB&msclkid=82bd6a77f23910d01c740b8d918c09ce&utm_source=bing&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=UK%20%7C%7C%20EN%20%7C%7C%20PLA%20%7C%7C%20Category%20%7C%7C%20Bing%20Shopping&utm_term=4583795270657640&utm_content=Skin%20Care&gclid=82bd6a77f23910d01c740b8d918c09ce&gclsrc=3p.ds which they claim is better than hyalouronic acid. I then use the no7 day cream which has sunscreen in, if I'm going out I have a mineral foundation which is a stronger sunscreen.

I've also got the inkey list's retinol but it stings.

Allaboutyou222 · 02/02/2022 11:35

What is retinol for?

Thanks for replies btw.

I use a milk or cream cleanser and a separate eye makeup remover. I then follow this with a facial wash type cleanser ( this is if I've worn makeup that day I alway double cleanse - no need if you haven't ).

I then use a basic toner and follow it 3/4 times a week with either Ren or Paula's choice bha toner which had very good skin resurfacing qualities.

Then I use a serum, it usually has tretinoin or retinol in ( currently using dermatica as it's specially formulated for you - you send in photos of your skin and say what you would like to achieve such as anti aging and they formulate it for you it's £20 per month ).

Can I also say that I wait about 20 mins after the toner to use the serum though as if your skin is still damp it can make the retinol react badly and irritate your skin more.

Then I use a basic moisturiser usually from Aldi and a specific eye cream ( I use quite an expensive obagi one as it's very good for the eye area ) you don't have to use an expensive eye cream though and many people find that your regular moisturiser can be taken up to under the eye as it's the actual reintol that you use before in the serum that's doing the job.

Retinol or Tretinoin is a vit c derivative I believe and is actually used to treat severe acne although it's now considered the gold standard in skincare for having an actual effect on your fine lines and wrinkles.

I'm 50 now btw and it helps my skin no end. I do use Botox and fillers but they only help with the 'scaffolding' so to speak not your actual skin texture.

If you want a cheap good Cleanser :

The Ordinary Squalene Cleanser or the Good Skin range at boots. Both are balmy Cleanser so oil based and will break down make up. Then follow up with a facial wash. Cerave is good for cheap and cheerful.

Then moisturise and SPF

BlingLoving · 02/02/2022 16:21

So you're looking to cleanse properly at night to remove make up? Lots of good options on here. I personally like an oil=based cleanser - I use just plain almond oil (holland and barrat) and remove with a damp, warm facecloth (just normal one - I buy packs from Sainsbury's but tend to use a max of two days each). Simple does a nice oil-based cleanser and Clarins also has a nice one that has a bit of a foam to it when you get it wet.

You can double cleanse, but I've never had the patience.

Then a good moisturiser of your choice. No need for SPF at night.

In the morning, a quick wipe with micellar water is, I think, enough. And once or twice a week use an exfoliator in the shower instead. Then moisturise (with an SPF or add one after).

Quamora · 02/02/2022 16:37

I usually double cleanse, once to remove the make up/spf and once to clean the skin.
Then tone. Acid tone instead once or twice a week.
Then a cheap moisturiser. I bought some retinol but haven’t got into the habit of using it yet.

I’m not fussy on products and I don’t think it makes much difference which products you use but I don’t like using mineral oils or silicones on my face as they give me dry but spotty skin so I avoid products with those in.

I use the Aldi dupe for Liz Earle Cleanse and Polish (a thick cream) to remove make-up. I rinse it off with water and then wash with a good quality bar soap. I use a muslin cloth to wash off the cream once a week only for a bit of mild exfoliation, so I only need to wash a cloth once a week. I use a few drops of facial oil and a night cream to moisturise afterwards. I'm 50 and perimenopausal. My skin was beginning to get a bit dry, but adding the facial oil seems to have made a real difference.

DedalusBloom · 02/02/2022 16:50

Evening:

I use a Micellar water to get the make up actually off ( The pink Garnier is a great dupe for Bioderma and always seems to be on offer in Superdrug.

Then I cleanse with a creamy cleanser and a flannel/ water to get my skin clean. Not bothered by brand as it's on my skin for such a short time. I'm currently using Superdrug brightening because I like the smell. (I used to use Emma Hardie which smelt fabulous but didn't clean my skin any better.)

Once skin is dry I use retinol ( Dermatica as a PP mentioned) a few nights a week and on alternative nights a glycolic serum

After that a basic moisturiser or oil depending on how dry I'm feeling.

In the morning I wipe my face with water,
Apply Vitamin C serum and SPF if I'm going out, or just moisturiser if I'm staying in.

That's it. I also have Botox and fillers/ microbladed eyebrows which I think make more difference to my face than a 10 step skin care regime.

It doesn't have to be complicated unless you are dealing with very reactive skin - acne, rosacea etc. Use uncomplicated products to see what works and add in other things as you see fit.

beguilingeyes · 02/02/2022 16:51

I hot cloth cleanse with a cleansing balm like Liz Earle C&P..the Superdrug and Aldi versions are good and cheap. Apply it to wet face and remove with a flannel dipped in hot water. I buy a dozen flannels cheap in IKEA and just chuck them in the wash basket.

MrsBrodie · 02/02/2022 16:57

I bought the Nadine Baggott winter edit box from Superdrug as it was done to £20. It's excellent value and I'll happily buy everything again. Nadine shows how to use the items on her Instagram.

If you don't Nedd a whole routine, the cleanser is lovely and gentle. I also recommend the Superdrug Vit E hot cloth cleanser.

Allaboutyou222 · 02/02/2022 21:41

Ok Thankyou. Some nice ideas. Some sound more complicated that but I want though. Will check out the suggestions.

I never thought I'd get on board with the double cleanse thing, but actually it really works for me. I use sweet almond oil to take off my makeup, then wash again with a gentle face wash. I remove it all with water and a flannel. My skin looks so much better when I do this, which admittedly isn't all the time!

Inthesameboatatmo · 03/02/2022 06:57

Double cleanse. I use the simple oil cleanser first then an aldi 85p face wash . Then night cream with a few drops of facial oil or any old oil from Holland and Barratt. I make sure I really massage it into my skin . I don't have much time like you and I also hate faff of any description with this kind of thing.

coldwaterswimmer · 03/02/2022 09:15

Have a look at Face Theory. They have amazing products and there's a quiz on their website which will generate suggestions for a routine to suit your skin.

Thanks
