Losing hair trichologist

Hi for the last 18 months I have been losing my hair on one side.
After heavy periods my ferritin level was 3.
After 18 months I have actually seen a doctor today , finally face to face and she said she would refer me to the hair loss clinic.
However, she said they will look at me but on the nhs there is really nothing they do.
One of her past patients saw a private trichologist, she mentioned Manchester. I am in the north west. Has anyone got any recommendations please. And how do they deal with it .

OP I had a hysterectomy when I was 41 as had a huge fibroid. The blood loss and pain was ridiculous towards the end. I was reluctant to have the operation but as the time they were unable to offer other treatment due to size of fibroid. I kept my ovaries and recovered quickly from surgery and haven’t looked back. As previous poster said, I got my life back.

Couldn't read this without posting. I was recently diagnosed with iron deficiency anaemia after my hairdresser pointed out patches of alopecia. My ferritin was 4 and Haemoglobin 9. This was in November. Started taking 800mg ferrous fumarate daily (prescribed, though I later found out I could buy it otc cheaper).

I don't know what my blood levels are now as won't be tested again till March, but I started feeling so much better - literally like I had a new lease of life - within 2-3 weeks of starting the iron tablets. My hair is now growing back (but grey!).

My GP was concerned to identify the cause of the anaemia and referred me to gynae as I have heavy periods. Gynae diagnosed something a bit like endometriosis but different, and said I have to decide what to do to reduce the bleeding as otherwise even if I stay on the iron forever, I'll always be trying to replenish a deficit. She wants me to have a mirena coil but I don't want one for various reasons. She mentioned some hormonal tablets that might achieve the same effect so I'll speak to GP about those. I've had tranexemic acid before but it didn't work for me.

@Whitby1234

My thinking is At the menopause the fibroids will shrink. I haven’t even googled what problems they can cause. Flipping heck it’s just one think after another.
Or they could grow.... Mine ended up the size of a 26 week pregnancy and I now have a massive horizontal scar from it being removed in one piece for testing as they didn't know if it was only fibroid. Luckily for me it was . I could have had one 5 years before. I should have.

I had really low ferritin levels about a decade ago I think they were at about 25.

I had prescription iron tablets. After some research on Dr google I took a combination of iron and vitamin C and lysine. I took this combination twice a day. Lysine is meant to be very good at helping the body carry iron to where it is needed. My levels were over 100 within about six months.

I think it normally takes a lot longer to get iron levels up so quickly, and lots of trichologist do you recommend taking this combination.

I also had heavy periods at the time. I’ve had a coil fitted for about eight years now so no periods and no problems.

Good luck with everything. Flowers
