Soolantra/rosacea

Hi,

I was diagnosed with rosacea (the spotty type) 3 weeks ago. The Doctor prescribed metro gel which doesn't seem to do much, but I ordered Soolantra online and have been using it for two weeks.

My skin felt better on day 4, but now after 2 weeks I have more spots and redness. Is this normal? I've read about the die off phase but I just feel so disheartened.

I've never really had acne or a problem with my skin so this has been a lot to adjust to.

Thanks x

I use this cream and have done for years.

I was diagnosed with demodex mite rosacea. So sore and annoying. There is a point 2-3 weeks in where it gets worse, then better. I use a thin layer twice a day and wean off it when my skin improves. I go through a tube a year. I am having a little flare up at the moment and am waiting to see the improvement.

Thanks @AgathaMystery.
I thought you could only use for a max 4 months but could be wrong. Did it make your skin clear? Depressing to think that this never goes away! 😕

I have the spotty rosacea too. I had little improvement with the metronidazole gel initially, so I asked for soolantra. I applied it for two consecutive mornings, and my whole face went mental - red and lumpy and angry.

I thought it was having a reaction so I hurriedly stopped applying it - and after 4 or 5 days, all my spotty rashes and patches disappeared! I've been free of it for a year but it flared up a bit recently, so I used it again, putting it on for 2 mornings and waiting for whatever the crazed parasites were doing in my face to die off - I had a couple of rebellious big red lumps under my chin and nose but now I'm all clear again.

I'd give it a try, mine definitely got worse before it got better!

I use it on and off. Never for more than 3 months solid. My dermatologist told me I could use it forever if I wanted. Shock

Ironingoutthecreases · 31/01/2022 16:46

Persevere. Mine was sorted after using it once a day for 8 weeks. That was 4 years ago. I seem to remember it getting worse a couple of weeks in.

JMAngel1 · 31/01/2022 18:37

You will have to prise it out of my dead hands - it changed my life.
I've been using it for around 3 years - I use it every other night as prophylaxis.

JMAngel1 · 31/01/2022 18:40

No, it's been 5 years + I have no concept of timeGrin
Here's my original post in 2016 which describes die off at the beginning.

Wow so yours worked within days? I'm at two weeks now, and my face is angry!

Well, that's good to know if it does help that I can carry on using it if needed.

Ah brilliant, thank you. So many people love it that I was really excited, but it's scary when it gets worse. I initially just had spots on my nose, but now they're on my nose and all around it and on my cheeks!

Can you remember how long it took to work for you initially? Also does it work for spots and redness please? Thanks

If you read through the post I linked, it talks you through it.
I remember having a flare around 3 weeks and also having really enlarged painful gland at the back of my head which was basically my lymph system becoming overloaded with dead demodex material - bleurgh!

winterowl · 31/01/2022 20:08

I've been using it four weeks on Wednesday. All bumps went very quickly but I'm still very red and perhaps sometimes more so than I used to be? I'm continuing in the hope it all works itself out - I've paid £38 for the tube so want to give it a fair go.

Sadie1982 · 31/01/2022 20:21

Oh I can see the link but it just says you'll report back but I can't see one after that . Did you guys moisterise after soolantra? I'm using LRP repair balm but wonder if I need a lighter one

Hey, I know this thread is a few months old, but I was wondering if anyone took Soolantra while they were pregnant?

zippyswife · 18/04/2024 21:24

@Sadie1982 just wondered how the soolantra worked out for you in the end? My rosacea has come back with a vengeance and I am considering it.
