How do you use rosehip oil?

I'm still looking for a good one - am using it as a facial oil at night but the one I have (Radha, Amazon) is quite drying. Do you put cream/serum on top of rosehip oil or underneath first? I'm not sure if other products can be used with it. Tia!

I use one from The Ordinary, but I don't find it drying. I put a couple of drops under a moisturizer during the day and alternate it with a retinoid treatment at night

Thanks, just bought The Ordinary one which will hopefully be better. Alternating is a good idea, I didn't think of that!

Pai rosehip oil is really good. I mix a couple of drops with moisturiser in the day - it's lovely and nourishing.

I have the trilogy organic one from Holland and Barrett. I use it mixed with moisturiser to prevent stretch marks (I'm pregnant) occasionally I've used it on my face

I find it lovely and nourishing as a little does a long way. Iv got quite dry skin and this spreads/ moves easily compared to others I've tried

Rub it on my face first and then moisturiser on top. V nourishing and skin looks very smooth after.

I only use it at night and it's the last thing I put on. Apparently helps to lock in serums and moisturiser. I use the Pai one too which I love

I use Neals Yard rose hip oil after my Cerave moisturiser. Still feels dry by mid afternoon. Am I applying the wrong way around?Confused

lumpofcomfort · 29/01/2022 09:01

I believe you are supposed to use it after moisturiser as the moisturiser can't penetrate the oil but the oil can penetrate the moisturiser. (Disclaimer - I found this out on YouTube so might be bo*cks).

I've used Trilogy and also one from Superfacial.

I find them very oily and only use as a night treatment. (And then it stains white pillow slips a bit!) If I used during the day my face would be gressy and my foundation slip off.

They do go 'off' quite quickly as they are a natural oil so my advice is to buy a small bottle.

Batholemubrecht · 29/01/2022 09:16

I thought oils went on last too as the oil creates more of a barrier and prevents the moisturiser from being absorbed if applied first. Maybe your skin is dehyrated rather than dry ?

JinglingHellsBells · 29/01/2022 09:23

I don't know why people are using oil AND a moisturiser.

I've only used one or the other as my face would be an oil slick - and I have normal-dry skin.

Oil IMO is more of a treatment, that you use as a night cream, or after a facial, when you aren't wearing make up afterwards.

GoldilocksZone · 29/01/2022 09:42

@JinglingHellsBells yeah that's what I'm not sure about! I think alternating makes sense. I think I've also got a rubbish oil so hopefully the new one will be better

I have dry skin so the oil acts to seal in the moisturiser. My skin never looks greasy in the morning. If your skin is not so dry, it might make it too oily.

Are you warming it up between your hands first?
