Help for hooded eyes - what make up?

I’m 46 & my eyes look like they’re getting smaller, I think it’s known as hooded eyes, where you can’t see much of the eyelid.
I am not very good with make up & only really wear mascara on the eyes but would like to do something to make them look more defined and less ‘piggy’😀 without too much make up.

Can anyone suggest some things I could try? Thanks

I have them too and the best thing is a matte, mid brown eyeshadow all over the lid to where the crease should be....and good mascara. Making the lid darker will diminish it. I put a little brown eyeliner on the outer edges top and bottom but not much!

Thank you @FortunesFave can I ask which eyeshadow you use please? I’ve bought so many in the past & wasted money as they’ve not been right. Do you use pencil eyeliner or liquid?

Head over to YouTube. Plenty of make up tutorials for hooded eyes :) You don't need any special make up, just a slightly different technique.

@bcc89 thank you that’s a great idea, I need to see it as I’m not great at make up😀

I have this and found some great tutorials on YouTube. I have managed to deal with hooded eyes by changing the way I do my make up as follows:

Taupe / beige over crease and up to brow bone - very blended in so not too obvious. You want to push the brow bone and "hood" back. (Note, push the shadow brush up up up and don't let it go out to the sides of your face or it's aging.)

White / cream / pale pink / very light eyeshadow or blend-able pencil on the bit of the lid right above the lashes, the moving part only. This is the bit you can't see when you are looking up straight in the mirror. To alleviate hooded eyes you want that bit to stand out more.

Blend blend blend

Then instead of normal eyeliner I use a waterproof eyeliner pencil from under the top lashes. Sometimes called tight lining I think. This gives a dark lash line but doesn't "steal" any of the space on the moving part of the lid, which you need to preserve.

Then good long mascara on top lashes only.

I hope this helps OP! It has really made a difference for me, especially not putting liner on top of my lash line.

@MovingHouseAgain what eyeliner do you use. I like the results from tightlining but if often gives me panda eyes. Any recommendations for a non smudging one?

I use Mac Omega eyeshadow in the crease and above the crease. And for a more defined evening look I add Bobbi Brown Slate to the crease. I can't tightline as I have sensitive eyes, and don't like going without eyeliner, so I use a very thin line of brown eyeliner above my top lashes, vey close to the lash line.

@hettie Wonder2 SuperStay Liner pencil

I never rated that because he puts the makeup on his own eyes and he has clearly visible lids...his eyes are BARELY hooded.

Take your point but the technique works on mine

Nadine Baggott posted a video on Instagram & YouTube last week about changes to make to your skincare and make up as you get older. One of the tips was applying eye makeup for hooded eyes.

Ironingoutthecreases · 31/01/2022 14:42

Tried the Wayne Goss technique this morning after recommendations on here using a neutral beige shadow. Really pleased and much better than other techniques I’ve tried so far.
