Weekend away "style" pleeease help!

I'll start by saying I haven't bought new clothes fir a few years. And even then, they've been "they'll do" sorts.

I have a girls weekend away, ages away (autumn) but I am so useless at shopping, live rurally an hour minimum from decent shops. Low budget.

So I'm looking for help with a few outfits. We're renting a house. 2 nights. One will be "party night" - I actually feel OK shopping for this or probably have a dress already. One will be dinner - at the house but still reasonably smart I expect.

What sort of outfit do I need? Smart jeans/jumper/boots for travelling/daytime?

What about dinner night? No idea.

I'm 42, 5ft 7, size 14. On a diet so might be a 12 by then. Average shape - haven't got big boobs or anything that stands out really, proportionally ok. Grin too much tummy/bum atm.

Friends have far far more money than me .

Help out a clueless person please, I really want to feel good and look ok!

My current style varies between classic and slightly quirky.

What activities will you be doing?
Is the house in a town or is it rural?

I dont know about activities yet. Its pretty rural. We're mostly country girls!

Difficult to say until you have an idea of what you might be doing - shopping, country walks, lazing around the house, visiting castles/stately homes... Could you start putting away some cash each month so that you have clothes fund to get a few things together when the autumn clothes are back in the shops after the summer?

On similar weekends I would normally travel in a jersey or knitted dress with tights and boots on the Friday night - comfortable enough then to sit around in during the evening if we didn't go out. On the Saturday I'll wear jeans, comfortable boots, nice jumper/layers. A casual jacket/blazer if we were going into town or a practical outdoor coat for walks etc. Something that feels ok if we stop for a pub lunch but not too dressy.

Whilst you might not be able to do much clothes shopping until closer to the time I would make sure that I've got appointments booked to have my hair cut/coloured, nails and feet done just beforehand so that I know I'll look a bit more polished than usual.

Assuming that there'll be an element of being in the house and catching up with each other how about starting with some nice pyjamas/loungewear?

As your friends are 'considerably richer than yow' cue best Harry Enfield impression, how about trying designer factory outlets or designer second hand shops. The sales assistants will probably have time to give you some advice and you can try lots of things on. Your height and figure will mean you will have no problem looking great!

@Tryingtostayupbeat Grin haha exactly that. That's a good idea, I'll start saving and hopefully manage to get sone nice things.

I do need an overhaul in any case.

@RomainingCalm I like the idea of getting hair etc sorted , I always leave it til the last minute. If at all.

A jumper dress and nice boots is a really good suggestion. Yes to smart jeans or maybe some slouchy black trousers, or slim flares with smart trainers?
