"magic" underwear - is the M&S stuff any good?

I have bought a dress but I am extremely lumpy and bumpy (10 months) post natal with enormous breastfeeding norks - will those all in one magic underwear thingys be any good or am I a lost cause and should just wear the only pair of jeans that fit me and a T shirt until I eventually lose some weight?

Have seen some in M&S and since MIL gave me a voucher for Christmas I thought it would be a good place to start.

Any recommendations?

i prefer the ones i bought in figleaves. whilst the m&s one s i have do the job, they are very constrictive tomove itn. whislt the pricier ones hold you just as well, but dont feel like you are in the chokey.
what you get depends on bra size. persoanlly, i prefer a well fitting bra, and sthen tummy and bum contorl for wearing dresses. i have this

thanks stocking for bumping and pukkapatch for your tips. I do desperately need a new bra but I am loth (sp?) to buy one as I'm pretty sure that my boobs will shrink again when I stop feeding which may well be in the next few weeks - although a decent bra wouyld probaly make me feel a bit better about myself when I go out for the very occasional evening.

May well check out the tummy and bum thing and a good bra - will have to go to John Lewis as well then! (never found M&S that good for bra fitting)

a good bra is essential for your emotional well being
even if its only for a mnoth, i would stuikll get a new bra.

thanks pukka - you have inspired me - went to M&S and have appointment to be measured on Monday. There don't seem to be many really good supportive nursing bras there but I should be able to get one to go with the dress

I bought magic knickers from M&S to go under a dress I'd decided to wear to a friends wedding.

They were terribly uncomfortable. They didn't make me look slimmer, they just rearranged me - into a position where sitting down and breathing was not comfortable. Avoid!

I got M&S ones, don't try and get a size smaller they will kill you, you can try them on you know. Wear a pair of saggy knickers that don't do anything and try the magic ones over the top then you can see if they do anygoo and if they are too tight. Don't spend that much without trying them.

The highwaisted cycleshort style seem to be better than the knicker shaped ones.

LobstersLass · 30/12/2007 10:31

The ones I got were the ones that are shaped liked knickers, but with a waistband that finished just under my bra.

I got them in my size. Perhaps I should have got a size bigger. They were very uncomfortable.

what do you think about the slip/petticoat type ones? Do they just smooth things out rather than squash it in?

I bought one of the ones from M&S a while ago that looks like cycling shorts with a skirt over it. The waistband isn't constrictive at all and this worked really well under a shift dress I wore before christmas. My belly is the worst thing and it helped hoik it in without it appearing spare-tyre-styley under my norks so I can recommend this

I also bought a pair of the high waisted pants (but with no long legs) like the ones linked by pukka - but they rolled down when I moved and I took them back. These weren't M&S or figleaves though (some independent lingerie shop) so is it worth giving figleaves a try - do they stay put under your bra?
