Where can I shop now M&S is rubbish?

No word of a lie, the last 4 items purchased from M&S have been faulty within one wash. DDs vests, school tights, my Xmas pyjamas and now the slippers I bought DD for Xmas. They have been worn no more than 5 times and have a huge hole in the seam. I'm so cross!

Where can I shop now? M&S have always been my go-to for quality items but I refuse to shop there now.

I'm thinking John Lewis? Where else please? Needs to be somewhere which sells childrens and womens wear Smile

I shop Primark for everyday as my usually pleasantly surprised by the quality and the price is low.

I spend the big money on more niche stuff at the upper end when required and expect a lot of wear as a result!

Enzbear · 25/01/2022 13:56

After many years of avoiding the place I've started shopping in NEXT again.
Mainly basics - thick leggings, wool socks, tights, long sleeve cotton tees in some nice colours and a couple of nicer tops and bottoms.
I was struggling as I've been very disappointed in H and M of late, which was my go to for basics.
Even fussy DH found something he liked.

MrsGhastlyCrumb · 25/01/2022 14:03

Those are faulty and not fit for purpose. I would take them back for a refund, on principle if nothing else.

TollgateDebs · 25/01/2022 14:46

You could try Tu and I've been very impressed with their clothing for some time now. Other suggestions, without any experience but I am sure someone will have some - Matalan, ASDA, Lands End.

TarDisKinseia · 25/01/2022 14:49

Lands End are usually sturdy with the odd exception- their sizes do run a bit bigger I find.

Also John Lewis is good and if their is a problem their customer service is always excellent.

Pleaseuniverseplease · 25/01/2022 14:51

Sainsburys TU are excellent quality.

Worldgonecrazy · 25/01/2022 15:03

Try primark for leggings and basics. I was surprised at the quality. I get all my basics there too.

Skinfulnappies46 · 25/01/2022 15:44

I like m and s again. Lot better than was a few years ago.

Cherryana · 25/01/2022 15:49

I also think that the design at Sainsbury’s Tu is very nice.

Peacocks, matalan, Tesco, sainsbos and asda all better than M&S for clothing, although Asda food is awful.

Primark useful for stuff that you only want to last a month or so.

MrsGhastlyCrumb · 25/01/2022 18:51

Yeah, Land's End is good for M&S style staples. Not sure I'd get their slippers though, limited, fairly ugly designs when I last checked.
My kids destroy clothes and they've taken months rather than days to destroy their school leggings...

MooSakah · 25/01/2022 19:09

I've gone back to next again. Found a nice coat in m&s but the pjs this year have already fallen apart.

LostWithoutDottyP · 25/01/2022 19:14

Everywhere is rubbish now. I have resorted to ordering from AmbroseWilson this week, we'll see how that goes.

KeyErro · 25/01/2022 19:17

Next or John Lewis

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 25/01/2022 19:20

@Pleaseuniverseplease

Sainsburys TU are excellent quality.
I came on to say this !
sleaf · 25/01/2022 19:20

George at Asda gives M&S a run for its money, not so much in footwear and bags but definitely for most other clothing.

BoodleBug51 · 25/01/2022 19:22

I recently did an order with M & S for workwear, and I didn't know whether to laugh or cry when I unpacked it................ needless to say, the whole lot went back. I just want some decent quality work skirts.... it's like the holy grail of internet shopping.

I've joined the older lady tribe and found Peter Hahn very good, as well as David Nieper. It's not cheap but it's decent quality. If you're younger, Mint Velvet and White Stuff seem to wash well.

Trolleedollee · 25/01/2022 19:32

This is so the opposite of my experience. I have had such good experience with the quality recently and have gone back to buying most of my clothes there. I think they’re on a brilliant roll st the moment. I have never found anything in Tu I like.

CatNamedEaster · 25/01/2022 19:45

I would also add, take all of it back to M&S. I keep all my receipts for 6 months and if things shrink, seams get twisted or any holes appear (which is happening a lot with H&M basics these days) I take them back.

It's a pain in the arse when you really liked the item but I refuse to let them keep my money.

By the way that doesn't mean I only expect things to last six months, but by that point you'll have washed something enough times to know if it's decent quality or not.Smile

mynameiscalypso · 25/01/2022 19:47

I like Tu as well. There's some crap on there but nowhere near as much as George/ASDA which used to be one of my staples but has gone downhill a lot.

OnaBegonia · 25/01/2022 19:57

TU, George, Brakeburn, Fatface,Tesco, the supermarkets certainly seem to be filling the gaps left in the High St.

MistySkiesAfterRain · 25/01/2022 20:33

I think m&s has upped its game, that said you have to be really selective. A lot of things look nice on the hangers.

I tend to buy dark neutrals from them, as dark neutrals tend to look better quality than they are anyway.

Victoria1083 · 25/01/2022 20:52

Whistles, Uniqlo, Hobbs, Boden, Toast, Sweaty Betty
