Hi
I have a wedding to attend in Feb & I'm
looking for advice on what kind of dress/outfit to wear. I have put a lot of weight on & my stomach is big. I've hopefully attached a picture, not the best, I have no idea what body shape I am, small boobs, then everything else is just big. I think I'm a size 14/16. I will be going to look for something at the weekend, but just wondered if anyone could help with what would be the best shape etc.
TIA.

I have a similar body shape and would wear a shift dress and jacket. I will see if I can find any photos of what I mean Smile

I would ask for this to be moved to style and beauty where you’re more likely to get helpful replies.

My advice as a total non expert is to try and book an afternoon and just try loads of things on. John Lewis does a free personal styling service which friends have used and found helpful.

Iwasfeelingepic · 25/01/2022 11:09

Thank you. I was thinking of a shift dress. when I googled what to wear, empire or A-line dresses seemed to be the advice.

I would stay well away from empire line if you don’t want to be asked if you’re pregnant. Bitter experience here.

A shift dress is a good suggestion.

Sorry I am not sure how old you are so have put very different styles. Agree with PP - report your own post and ask to have it moved to S&B for the proper experts.

Iwasfeelingepic · 25/01/2022 11:12

I love that blue dress.
I get the pregnant thing time, well I did before I went back to wearing t-shirts & hoodies.lol.

You'd look slimmer if your posture was better, you seem to be leaning backwards. I'm not being rude but I couldn't think of any other way of saying it. Imagine someone is pulling a cord on the top of your head . That should help.

I know what you mean, I was slightly leaning back as I was trying to keep my unwashed hair out the way( having a bed day as not feeling great) My posture is bad though I didn't want to take a pic of me standing straight up, shoulders back etc as I wanted to show how I normally look. But thank you for the advice(•‿•)

What's the AIBU?

Iwasfeelingepic · 25/01/2022 12:26

@CailleachGranda

What's the AIBU?
None I suppose, I didn't think of posting on the style & beauty page, and wanted advice. It's been moved now.

Look at the board. This is style and beauty.

Can you get into a shop to try a few dresses and snap some selfies - I find looking at photos I can look back and judge proportions better.
Roman are great for a selection of shorter dresses, they aren't the most fashion forward but there are some good styles hiding there. Take in some Spanx and good shoes and try some different styles and shapes. If you are fairly short a knee length dress may be a good bet.

I will be trying some on at the weekend & see how I feel in some. I don't feel right in anything, my stomach sticks out so much. I am 5.8, hoping I can wear tights as I'm paler than a ghost.lol.

PurpleDaisies

I was looking at the board

It's now been moved to S&B but wasn't at the time

But thanks though

BusterGonad · 25/01/2022 13:10

This might be an odd suggestion but I think if you made more of your boobs then your proportions would flow a bit better, I'd suggest a bra with some uplift and slightly padded.

Yeah that might be a good idea. Thank you.

I have a similar shape and I find that the slightly fitted dresses look much better and emphasise the bit of waist that I actually have

A good boulder holder bra lifts them enough to give a bit of shape

BusterGonad · 25/01/2022 15:07

Also a detailed neckline will draw the eyes upwards, away from the waist line.

Rina66 · 25/01/2022 15:13

Trouser suit, with loose cami underneath?

A trouser suit would be good, I'll keep an out for them as well. Thanks everyone.
