Hair help needed

I had my hair coloured in November. I asked for dark and we agreed upon a chocolately colour with copper bits. So they did balayage and a semi over the top I believe.

Since then however my hair has progressively become more and more difficult to deal with. It is so tangled after washing (I have to wash it most days). It's bordering on matted and I am seriously struggling to get the knots out (I do get them out each time but I have a sore scalp and am losing hair!)

I wear my hair tied back at night, I bush all the knots out before I wash it, I comb through the conditioner before rinsing and then it's full of tangles when I wet brush it before drying. I've tried several different shampoos/conditioners, several different detangling sprays, a deep conditioning treatment, an olaplex treatment and none are having any effect.

I have very fine straight hair (longish, probably just above my bra line) and am genuinely concerned I'm not going to have any left soon!

Any suggestions on anything I can do?

I would go back to the salon because the cut and colour cost a fortune but they went bust over Christmas so can't do that!

Hi op some questions...

what are you using to tie your hair back? (scrunchie might be more gentle than a hair elastic)

Have you tried a silk pillow case?

Do you use a tangle teaser or another similar for brushing out the tangles?

Some people are a fan of Phillip Kingsley Elastizer but I have been lovingly applying and havent seen a difference really in my dried out, crappy, winter hair (all the central heating and cold walks!)

In terms of putting the condition back- I think it might need a wee trim if it was last done in November?

I have zero idea about balayage sorry - but might be worth finding a new hairdressers?

The over-washing is likely to dry out your hair more, and strip out too much oil so I'd personally say conditioner only for a day or two, then see if you can go back to every other day? Try using warm not hot water to rinse, and cooler settings on hair dryer/go easy on the ghds etc.

hope someone comes along with better advice but hth for now xx

Thanks @Latteandcappuccino

I tend to use those telephone wire coiled hairbands as other fall out but I don't even wear my hair up most days.

I do need to find a new hairdresser but I'm not desperate for a cut I don't think, the end are fine, it's the middle part that is tangling.

I never considered not using shampoo, I'll give that a go tomorrow. If I don't wash my hair daily the roots are so greasy it looks and feels horrendous.

I don't straighten it (my hair is poker straight already) and I use a Dyson hairdryer so should be relatively good for my hair- I hope!

Oh yes the invisibobble type ones? They should be fine then for being gentle on hair.

Try conditioner only or maybe condition-shampoo-condition on alternate days as an experiment?

Also maybe a microfibre hair towel? Takes out the extra water after washing, if you are getting tangles the hairs more likely to break if it's really wet.
