How do you judge when it's time to get some more Botox?

So I've had Botox 2 or 3 times for really deep frown lines. Once a year is really enough to soften them up, I don't want a completely unnatural line free face at 45. My motivation is more not looking cross all the time which affects my communication with people.

I'm just wondering how you decide you need to go back for more. I think in my mind I worry if you go too regularly a) it's obviously super expensive but b) if you haven't completely reset to your natural-without-Botox state, how does the practitioner judge what they are doing? Is it OK to have more Botox even when the last lot hasn't actually fully worn off? Would love to hear your views and strategies!

I think if ever I thought it was time to get Botox, I'd book a counselling appointment instead

Oh seriously, fuck off.

Not that it matters, but I have counselling AND Botox. After a very traumatic experience last year, I looked old, grey, and extremely thin. I had new wrinkles that made me look 10 years older than I am - not helped by the fact that I had lots of new grey hairs, and bones visibly sticking out of me.

A year, a few pounds on, a couple of trips to the hairdresser, and two lots of Botox later, I'm starting to get back to my old self. And the Botox has genuinely helped.

It doesn't matter why people get Botox but if it helps you feel better about yourself - like hair dye, or makeup, or new clothes or whatever - then why not?

In answer to your question though, OP. I find mine wears off quickly as I exercise a lot. The second time was 3 months after the first, and the first lot had almost completely worn off by then. I'm hoping it starts to last longer once I've had it done a few times.

@Babdoc

When is it time? When hell freezes over…! Grin Sorry, but I’m with arethereanyleftatall. One’s self esteem really shouldn’t depend on injecting toxins into one’s face, due to obsessing over such a superficial non issue as wrinkles.
Look you can't answer the question so just browse by.

You have answered it yourself!

You go with how your own face looks. You can see it begin to go. As regards how do they know - my doc keeps records with diagrams and where he injects each time but hopefully your practitioner is well versed in their trade.

lol at the "my dermatologist recommends that I have it little but often"

gullible.

It wears off really quickly on me as I do loads of running. Seemed a bit of a waste so haven’t had any for a year and a half. It was as if no sooner as I’d had it done it wore off and for £250 I wanted it to last longer.

I’m suspicious about doctors saying don’t wait until it’s worn off. I think it’s best to let it wear off so you can see what your face looks like without Botox and not loose sight of that.

I’m going again next month with a view to maybe having it once every 6 months it so.

The one time I had it in quick succession (4 month gap) I looked awful and it looked really obvious.

@Scbchl

I got mine for the first time yesterday, she said to me itl be 10 to 11 weeks at most the first time and not to wait till the movement is fully back. Then after that it will last longer. Il be honest I was a bit shocked I didn't realise it was needed every 3 months or so I thought it was more yearly like lip filler.
It is a fact that the longer you get it then it will last longer and you will need less as let's face it you are destroying the muscles injected.
