Newly dry skin - help!

Hi all, I’m nearly 44 and my son has quite suddenly become dry. I’ve got very dry and flaky patches round my nose and my skin generally feels very dry and tight. I’ve never had dry skin before so all my cleanser and moisturizers etc are aimed at normal or even slightly oily skin.

Where do I start? I know I can swap to stuff aimed at dry skin but what do I do about the rough flaky parts? Exfoliate? My usual facial scrubs now seem too harsh.

Any suggestions welcome to regain a bit of smoothness and glow.

I've had dry skin most of my life and think the advice is not to scrub at all. I don't at any rate, and my skin doesn't seem to miss it.

You'll need some decent lipid-based rather than moisturizing (=water-based) products. In the meantime, I find the feeling of tightness is alleviated by simply slathering on some Vaseline. Yes, I know some more precious folks out there swoon at the idea Wink. But no harm in giving it a try.

I have dry skin and always go back to Nivea Crème. It's the only one I've found that my skin feels properly moisturised.

Thanks both - the lipid-based idea is interesting and I will look into it. And stock up on Nivea crème :)
