Frizzy perm

User8721643839 · 19/01/2022 18:36

I have had a perm and its awful. My hair is dry, frizzy and I cant do a thing with it. Any suggestions all you hairdressers out there? I wash it and leave it to dry - awful. I have tried sulphate free shampoo, thick conditioner. Leaving Olaplex 3 in for 2 hours. I haven't blow dried it, I have been really careful and yet it is a frizzy helmet mess. Should I go back to the hairdresser? I am pretty desparate as I have an interview for a once in a lifetime job and I look like I am wearing a wig...!

Help!

How long is your hair, does it have any colour in it?

I’d suggest joining a curly girl group on Fb to get product and technique recommendations. Even though it’s a perm, they might work well for you.

It may need some protein rather than moisture, you could try a rice water rinse to see. Boil some rice and strain off the water and leave it in your freshly washed hair with a shower hat on for 15 minutes. Rinse out and then use your products.
You need alcohol free products to stop it feeling any drier, a curl cream perhaps and a gel, so you get a cast. When it’s 100% dry you can scrunch it out, you get the curl without the frizz.

Its past shoulders, and I have tried the CG method on it. Also tried the Dream Curl range but makes it feel coated and thick. Just a mat of hair.

Tried the scrunch method. As soon as the air has dried it - it frizzes. Theres absolutely no curl at the sides

Should i go back to her? What would they do though? I need a hairdressers advice as to what they would do - I do not want it cut!!

I would advise you to be careful with protein if its already dry. Rice water rinses or protein products leave my hair like straw
Go back and ask them to sort it. Hopefully you'll get it sorted with a professional conditioning treatment

I had a perm years ago at the hairdressers, and the hairdresser got distracted with another client so it was processed for too long. I literally had a poodle perm, and the only solution they could offer was a conditioner pack. I did get half my money back as soon as I posted on their FB page though and it was as awkward as hell because my friend was the receptionist ............

Only thing that helped me was Frizz Ease serum.... you don't need much of it, rub it through your hands to warm it and then apply to the hair from apart half way down the strand to the tips (made my roots horribly oily if I put it on there). It tamed the fluffiness, and gave it more defined curl.

CrystalMaisie · 19/01/2022 19:29

Frizz ease may exacerbate the frizz, it stops the hair becoming hydrated and it’s already very dry.

A colleague uses bumble and bumble cream on her hair then lets it air dry. Prior to this she used frizzease and her hair was both oily and dry.

Olaplex 6 says it’s for dry hair after perming.

Can just say, that when rollers were taken out and hair still damp, she added a cream, dried it with a hair dryer and put it in velcro rollers. Sprayed it with something else and brushed it out. Maybe that's what went wrong? But she's a hairdresser. I wasn't going to question it.
Anyone else got an idea as to what should be done?

How are you treating it ? You still need to use curl cream / some sort of product . Do you have a diffuser ? Can you post a pic and I can try and help / advise as a natural curly .

User8721643839 · 20/01/2022 21:42

I had a kevin Murphy hair mask then his Motion Lotion cream put on. It was diffused and then his young.again serum put on. It looks much better today.
@gunnersgold what do you recommend to keep on with?

Perms take a few days to settle but I would get some curl cream and watch some tutorials on you tube about curly girl and basically follow the wet plop and scrunching and then diffuse it . It will be super frizzy if left to it's own devices !

gunnersgold · 21/01/2022 06:26

I use a few different ones but boots curl cream is cheap . You need to add to wet hair and emulsify it with water in your hands first for best results.

gunnersgold · 21/01/2022 06:27

Basically it needs moisture. , curls need moisture to avoid frizz and your hair has just Been frizzed up with chemicals so needs help to calm down again.

User8721643839 · 21/01/2022 06:28

Thank you @gunnersgold. I've got some Dream Curls stuff from Boots

Ok , I think the mistake you are making is expecting it to just be curly but you need to treat it like curly hair and we don't wake up frizz free and perfect. It needs nurture and care too. Good luck but don't give up , try a few variations and make sure you diffuse because blasting it will make it hideous !

User8721643839 · 01/02/2022 21:48

I'm actually giving it a twice weekly deep condition - even pound savers is good, then Im blow drying it with babyliss big hair

Its actually looking rather fabulous now!
