Arghhhhh have suddenly got loads of dandruff, haven’t had it for years. What shampoo is best? It has pretty much appeared from nowhere, definitely wasn’t bad at the weekend. Up to date recommendations?

Is it dandruff or dry scalp?

My DD has this suddenly and I'm looking at how to get rid. Effectively the internet says anti dandruff shampoo for a month and don't think about moaning before that. No suggestions as to which one but it does say this...

Pyrithione zinc (Head and Shoulders, Jason Dandruff Relief 2 in 1) is an antifungal drug. It kills the fungus on your scalp that causes flaking. Pyrithione zinc shampoos are gentle enough to use every day.
Selenium sulfide (Selsun Blue) reduces fungus and prevents too many skin cells from dying off. If you have blond or gray hair or you dye your hair, ask your doctor before using shampoo containing selenium sulfide. It can change your hair color.
Ketoconazole (Nizoral) kills the fungus that causes dandruff. You can buy it in over the counter or prescription strength.
Salicylic acid (Neutrogena T/Sal) removes extra scale from your scalp before it can flake. In some people, salicylic acid can dry out the skin and cause more flaking.
Coal tar (Neutrogena T/Gel) slows the growth and shedding of skin cells on the scalp. Tar-based shampoos can also change your hair color if you have blond or gray hair.

I can only use the Body Shop's ginger shampoo. Have you tried it ?

Vosene?

Noooooogsh · 18/01/2022 16:35

Thanks all! Was looking at t gel but I’ve got blonde highlights and don’t want them to end up green or anything so thanks for the heads up @EricScrantona

Ginger body shop sounds good, and maybe some good old vosene, can still remember the smell Envy

What I'm recommending (As I Am - Dry and Itchy Co wash) is a co wash, but I have tried so many medicated shampoos /coconut oil /vinegar /baking soda/supplements etc etc over the years and this is the only thing that worked almost instantly and, it seems, permanently. I don't even use it every wash.

We had the same problem with my daughter couple of years ago so we all switched to the new line of head and shoulders. We haven't changed shampoos since and not a flake in sight. Very gentle and different lines for different hair types, so lots of choice!
