Apple Cider Vinegar rinse: how do I do this?

I’m the poster who keeps on posting about frizzy hair solutions. 🤣

I want to give ACV rinsing a go!! But can’t for the life of me work out the order you’re meant to do it in…

Shampoo, ACV rinse, leave 5 min, water rinse it out then condition?? Doesn’t this just negate all the goodness of the ACV (am in v hard water area)?

Shampoo, condition, ACV rinse and LEAVE THE ACV IN??? Won’t I smell like a chip shop?

Shampoo, condition, ACV rinse then rinse this out with water? Won’t that just be the hard water issue again?

Google isn’t coming up with a clear answer!

anyone got any tips (assuming it’s worked for you…)?

I'd like to know too!

Rinse after conditioning and dilute it considerably, like a tiny glug in a couple of litres of water, if you use it neat it'll turn your hair to straw. Leave for a bit and then rinse again.

For frizz I'd recommend fermented rice water over ACV though, ACV is more for shine than frizz IME.

Oooh fermented rice water… will research this. Thanks botemp! Always love your beauty advice.

There's lots of methods for rice water but essentially, wash the rice first, then soak it in equal amount of water. Remove rice after 12-24 hours at which point you can cook the rice and eat it. Leave the rice water for a further 24-48 hours to ferment in a dark warm place with a loose lid, the longer the smellier it gets, a bit cheesy 🤢 so don't leave it too long.

When ready to use, shampoo (a clarifying one can be good, you don't want too much buildup) then add equal amount of warmish water to it. Pour over hair, I tend to have a bowl underneath to collect it and pour it over a few times, comb through and leave for 20-30 mins to marinate, start with 20 mins, check it's all fine at 10 mins. Then rinse out with water and follow up with conditioner (a (hydrating) deep conditioner or mask is good if you've got the time).

I don't bother conditioning because I find an ACV rinse to be more detangling than any conditioner I have tried (very straight hair though so may be different to you). I use about a third/quarter ACV diluted in a 500ml bottle of water and soak my hair after shampooing, then leave for a couple of minutes and rinse out. Smells a bit vinegary when drying but not at all after that and works brilliantly (live in VERY hard water area)
