What to wear daily just at home

Notcontent · 17/01/2022 10:28

I love clothes but now spending the vast majority of my time at home - wfh or household chores etc. I like to be warm and comfortable when at home so have fallen into the pattern of wearing pretty much the same two outfits on rotation, which consist of fleecy joggers and big jumpers.

I feel like I need to change that and develop some at home uniforms! Any ideas?

Same here,I've recently bought leggings, longer length vest tops and long cardigans as its still comfy but looks a bit nicer than joggies and big jumpers, but still cosy!

WirKindervomBahnhofZoo · 17/01/2022 10:33

Struggling with this too! Can't see the point in dressing nicely just to sit at home but hate wearing the same old tat every day. Have got the bin bags out and have filled two already, my thinking is that if the awful clothes aren't there anymore, I will have to wear the nice ones!

WellThatsATurnipForTheBooks · 17/01/2022 10:35

I tend to wear yoga pants during the winter (some are tshirt type material some are more of a fine knitted type) and then in the summer have various cotton loose fit trousers (some gathered at the ankle, some more tapered leg some wide leg).

I just wear them with tshirts, cardigans or hoodies

psuedocream3 · 17/01/2022 10:44

I dress up even if not leaving the house, it makes me feel better and you don't need an excuse to look nice and feel wonderful. I figure if I make the effort, I am more likely to want to go out spontaneously even if it's just for a walk.

Notcontent · 17/01/2022 11:00

Some good ideas here, thank you.

In the summer it’s a bit easier I think as warmth is not a factor so I can wear very casual dresses and loose jeans with T-shirts.

I think I might get some Uniqlo heattech jeggings and start wearing some of my nicer jumpers.

@psuedocream3 - dressing up at home doesn’t really work for me because I feel like I can’t really relax if I am wearing an expensive cashmere jumper and my best jeans!!

I think jumper dresses, ‘nice’ leggings or joggers and jumpers work for me.

I always shower and put on a bit of make up/do my hair (doesn’t take long at all but makes me feel more ready for the day).

At the moment I’m wearing:
www.selfridges.com/GB/en/cat/spanx-high-rise-faux-leather-leggings_121-3004166-2437/

With: www.theknottyones.com/products/milda-turtleneck-grey

I have an M&S base layer top on underneath too - I get really cold working from home.

And I’m warm and comfy. And feel good.

I’ll go out for a coffee at lunchtime, so will just put on my chunky hiker boots and a wool wrap coat and scarf and I think I’d feel good enough to meet a friend etc.

I also like these comfy/knitted trousers like these:

With a nice jumper.

Purplecatshopaholic · 17/01/2022 11:36

Awesome leggings and sweater @Amelion - I am in real danger of buying those right now!

2DogsOnMySofa · 17/01/2022 11:40

Me too... but rather than buying more clothes (I've a wardrobe full of them), I've started to pull things out and wear them. Sometimes I do look like I'm off to work, but it doesn't matter. I'm currently wearing a dress with thick tights and slippers - the boots will come out if I go out.

Usually I've been wearing jeans and the same 3 jumpers

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 17/01/2022 11:41

In winter I always wear a nice jumper - often with a thermal base layer underneath per pp - and usually start out in joggers/lounge pants, then put on jeans to go out for a walk at lunchtime. I got lovely cashmere socks for Christmas and am wearing those with Birkenstock clogs - we live in a cold house. I am on camera most of the day so do hair and makeup first thing.

In warmer weather I tend to wear a crew neck t-shirt and v-neck cardi, or midi dresses.

Aside of the morning joggers/Birkenstocks, my outfits tend to be akin to what I would wear to meet a friend for coffee I think. I've bought some chunkier jumpers in alpaca wool (mainly from Arket and &OS) which would be too warm for being in actual work, but look smart and I really love.

ExConstance · 17/01/2022 12:02

I've been trying harder too but it irritates me that anything nice I wear will firstly get covered with dog hair and then get stuff down it from when I'm cooking. I suppose I could just wear an apron but cuddling the dog is non negotiable. Until winter is over it will be jeans, a long sleeved T shirt and a sweatshirt over the top.

nordica · 17/01/2022 12:22

I've been wfh since 2019 and mostly just wear all my clothes but have also bought with comfort in mind since. I love elasticated waist trousers like Lucy & Yak Alexas and M&S smart jogger shape trousers, dungarees, pinafore dresses, jersey dresses with Snag tights, Aesthetic Laundry sweatshirt skirts and dresses. This time of year I layer up with big wool and fleece cardigans on top of my dresses etc.

I only really wear casual leggings and such at weekends. It helps me feel I'm in work mode when I'm wearing something a bit smarter and do my hair and make up.

MistySkiesAfterRain · 17/01/2022 20:04

I'm trying to do this.

For me it is wearing jeans. I personally prefer more weighty clothes. At the moment I am wearing white trainers, Boden girlfriend grey jeans, a coloured belt, striped white shirt under a dark navy cotton sweatshirt that has some cutwork on the front and puff sleeves (doesn't bloody everything).

I am liking the shirt under a sweatshirt.

I also like a roll neck - I have a stripey one and a few others, there is something slightly more formal feeling about a roll neck that makes me feel I am at work iyswim.

I find Marks and Spencer collection quite good for inexpensive updates.

Invasionofthegutsnatchers · 17/01/2022 20:26

Lucy and yak dungarees or alexas with a cashmere jumper

Tu tencel joggers with an oversized cardigan and long sleeve t shirt

Jumper dress and tights

Ugg slippers

Gillybobs · 17/01/2022 20:45

Wide leg Jersey trousers, I like the side stripe style that is around just now. Nice with a breton or plain wool sweater. Always a pair of earrings and some simple make up for Teams calls. Just makes a difference.
These are my current favourite wfh trousers

@Gillybobs - just broken my promise to self not to order any more clothes - ordered one jumper from the baukjen sale and put myself on their waiting list for another!
Any suggestions for where to order a brown leather jeans belt would be appreciated. A gorgeous jumper with a scruffy belt wouldn't be a great look!

Gillybobs · 18/01/2022 19:52

Ha! Welcome to the baukjen addicts club! The stuff is amazing quality and decent value in their sales

Littlemissamy · 18/01/2022 19:52

I tend to wear wide leg trousers (I’ve got some nice silky ones, stretchy orange ones, and a couple of navy pairs with different stripes), and a polo neck/thick bright jumper, or a top I’d wear to go out to work in. If I’m not expecting any zoom calls (like today), I just throw a tee on - today was my favourite AC/DC one, but I keep a smart jumper by my desk so I can throw it on if someone calls unexpectedly! I do go out for the school run each day so I HAVE to get dressed, and I like that it stops me being lazy if the mood strikes me.last week I was poorly though and worked in nice loungewear. Just made sure I had my emergency jumper near me for video calls!

Love this!

It's akin to making sure the house looks nice for someone special...oneself!

Gillybobs · 18/01/2022 21:28

Not on the subject of wfh but an older woman told me years ago to always be well dressed and you'll never have to turn down any invitation. I just love that. That's how to live!

dudsville · 19/01/2022 09:01

I've always wanted to be like the people on TV, or TV of the past, that always showed people dressed in "outside" clothes answering the door in decent clothing even though they were not expecting company. It's taken the pandemic for me to achieve this, and it was probably was helped by previous years of ruthless kondoing my wardrobe. I now love getting dressed. You need to find what you will truly, honestly wear and start from there.

QuizzicalEyebrows · 19/01/2022 09:35

Fortunately I wasn't wearing my usual PJs this morning when the door bell went but an old Uni hoody, so comfy, and leggings.

Lndnmummy · 19/01/2022 09:40

I wear dresses mostly. Knitted ones or lounge dresses. COS/ARKET or Uniqlo mainly. It looks nice on zoom calls but feels very comfortable. Leggings or tights inderneath if it gets chilly. I lf I wear this as well as makeup and jewellery i feel "done" but still comfy.

LiveFromNewYork · 19/01/2022 09:41

I also feel like my current wardrobe, though pretty casual to begin with, isn’t quite right for the new world.

At this time of year I like to wear cashmere cardigans but my house is incredibly hot so am looking more at my lighter weight ones, which is annoying as I like my cashmere cardigans.

I don’t really have any jogging bottoms or active wear type stuff. I got some of these from M&S which I’m trying out, just wish they came in a colour other than gloomy black.

www.marksandspencer.com/high-waisted-tapered-joggers/p/clp60489058

I do quite like that ‘luxe city activewear’ look which is everywhere now but have never traditionally worn sportswear and haven’t really the figure it. I easily feel swamped in lots of fabric, especially sitting at a desk all day, and if something is too high waisted it cuts in.

I also feel quite slobby in leggings and joggers yet slightly overdressed in my normal jeans or other trousers with a fly.

It’s the shoes for me as well, I feel an outfit is a bit unfinished without some but we don’t wear shoes in the house and slippers aren’t exactly the epitome of elegance, I’ve never worn them.

Yes I agree, I finished work about 2 months before the first lockdown, so it was a bit of a style transition period for me anyway.. but now I have really worked out what I wear and despite no longer going to work, I really dont like completely slobbing about, I have found.. So I do wear my nice trousers and jumpers and have purchased things to pull more casual outfits together ( unfortunately mostly from a brand recently reviled here as being frumpy it seems) but I now feel that I have a look that works staying in or going out.. ( Except for gardening which I still have my old jeans and tops for...!)
OperationRinka · 19/01/2022 09:42

I wear jeans, a plain long sleeved T shirt or heattech top in a colour I like, and a jumper I like, but cotton or acrylic so I'm not too paranoid about washing it. Second hand men's cashmere jumpers from charity shops are also an option depending on your style, DD lives in them and always looks gorgeous (though she is young and gorgeous and has a great haircut which helps.
