Eye shadow tutorials

I never buy or wear eye shadow (or any makeup really, except mascara and natural-ish lipstick), as I’ve always felt somehow “clownish” in it (which is not to say that I don’t appreciate beautifully applied make-up on others, simply that my own face appears alien to me when I wear it), but the final “gift” in a beauty advent calendar I received for Christmas was a Huda Nude Obsessions Rich eyeshadow palette which is such a thing of magpie-enticing beauty that I’m tempted actually to use it.

Except I have no clue about applying the colour at all, or layering it, or blending, or mixing, or anything… Grin

So, I’m hoping to find some good YouTube tutorials which will teach me how to apply eyeshadow… However, there are thousands of hits when I search for these, and I don’t want to wade through loads which don’t quite match my imagined aesthetic. I’d love to learn how to apply it in a reasonably subtle and lightly glamorous way, nothing too dramatic.

Any recommendations, please? Thanks in advance. Flowers

I'm no help as I seem to have weird eyes that don't go anywhere near as high as the people whose videos I watch. I think they're deep set maybe but I don't seem to have much room for the different shades and blending who ha. I am watching this thread with interest in the hope I can find out how to apply my pallet properly (I got one for Christmas with so many lovely colours in)

A few of my faves: Gemma at Pampered Wolf. Dominique Sachse. Angie at Hot n’ Flashy. Maybe Trinny London? Caroline Barnes. Have fun and enjoy..

Hopefully some beauty guru will arrive and save us from ourselves, Neilsfavouritechilli! Grin

Wayne Goss videos (go back about a year or so though, before he started selling his own line) are quite good.

Lisa Eldridge is my favourite. She is a professional make up artist and I find that she explains everything really well. I am not good at makeup at all but her videos have definitely helped me to improve. She has loads of different videos on her YouTube channel from every day looks to night out & wedding makeup.

Get on TikTok. Lots of MUAs do tutorials

MaybeHeIsMyCat · 15/01/2022 18:28

Alexandra anele is my fave

Her tips can be applied to any style of makeup, but she uses bright colours so it's easier to see

Thank you all for these suggestions. Flowers

I like Smitha Deepak on Facebook, she uses all ranges of brands from drugstore (mostly) to highend, and makes everything so simple. There's one video where she uses her fingers to do a multi tonal eyeshadow look. Honestly for beginners and not such beginners alike she's great.

GettingStuffed · 15/01/2022 20:30

Be careful on til you ,apparently a lot of the MUAs are self proclaimed and can give bad advice on products makes sure that the one you watch is qualified and use by just hyping a product.

I like Robert Welsh on YouTube.

I really like Hannah Martin's Insta tutorials. She uses a really wide range of brands and products and I've learned loads as a recent convert to wearing more than the bare minimum of make up!

Happymum12345 · 15/01/2022 20:49

I second Hannah Martin!

I was just going to suggest Robert Welsh too.

Have no idea how I stumbled upon him on Facebook but I've followed him for a good while now and find him fab. Good reviews, good at explaining techniques and doesn't seem judgmental.

Plus the videos where he does stuff with his twin James are something to chortle at!

BusterGonad · 16/01/2022 06:35

Yes, Robert Welsh is good, he seems like a nice guy.
