Please help me, I'm a 47 year old woman who doesn't understand eyebrows. What am I supposed to be doing with them? I have had them threaded but last time she did them too thin. Some people seem to have them micro bladed which seems quite extreme. Mine are quite fair but if I use pencil on them it looks a bit weird. What's the big deal with them and what am I supposed to do with them?!

Eyebrow pencil can be tricky if you've not had much practice, and finding a good shade for fair brows can be an issue! Often even the blonde shades are too dark or a bit orange. I recently bought Boy Brow in Blond from Glossier and I quite like it, it's like a brow mascara. Personally I apply it with the little wand and then comb it through with an eyebrow comb for the most natural effect. It's very easy to apply. Otherwise you can also get brow powder shadows which can be good. There's a Collection 2000 one with 3 shades in and a little brush, the lightest one is quite nice.

Hi, I'm 53 and for the last few years I've had mine tinted, waxed and threaded (all in one appt, our salon calls it HD Brows). The effect lasts about 3/4 weeks and costs about £34. The tint isn't too dark and she shapes my brows in a natural style.

I'm turning 50 and a casualty of the '90's pluck them to death fashion!
I used lockdown to just leave my eyebrows for a while to grow a bit. Then went to the salon and had a wax reshape and tint. The tint is awesome as it picks up any white hairs (yes this happens!) and gives good definition.
Now I just have the regrowth underneath waxed and brows tinted.
Any sparse patches can be gently pencilled in.

Beauty professional here. I'm fair. I recently had mine threaded and tinted dark blonde (mouse). For thirty quid treat yourself every other month.

This is the current state of them! I have blue/green eyes and mid brown hair.

Thanks for all the advice!
Can anyone attach pics?

I just get mine waxed and tinted

Andtheyalllookjustthesame · 14/01/2022 18:42

I would go for an eyebrow tint and shape, but tell them you want them to look thicker and darker, not finer. When tinted they won't need eyebrow pencil unless you want to use it

dementedpixie · 14/01/2022 18:42

My wax and tint costs about £12

CrimbleCrumble1 · 14/01/2022 18:46

I don’t think you need to do too much with them. Ask a beautician to tidy them up a bit and shape them. You may be able to then keep the shape at home by plucking out stray hairs as they appear.
You could try a home tint, they are mega easy to do and a box that costs £8 will last for about 10 tints.

Arcadia · 14/01/2022 19:11

@CrimbleCrumble1 do you recommend a particular brand? What shade would I go for?

I would recommend to anyone that they tint their own, then get them waxed/threaded professionally a couple of days later. This is because I’ve had too many crappy beauticians just do a hash job of shaping and then make up for it by dyeing your skin!
Try not to go to one of those walk-in places or Superdrug etc. Pick a proper salon and describe what shape you want or take a photo with you.
For instance my L and R brows are quite different shapes so I have to tell them which side I like and to make the other try to match it! If you say “natural” it seems to mean thicker! And I’m quite picky about the scissor trimming too to make sure they don’t cut all the top edge off.

PeopleBeCrazy · 14/01/2022 19:56

You've got a decent set of brows there OP!

I'm a bit of a brow nerd... So I agree with those above who suggested just a simple shape and tint.

They'd be easy to maintain at home once they've been tidied up.

I'm also 47 and grew mine out because I wanted a more modern, thicker, but natural brow. I made an appointment at a local clinic that had a really good reputation for brows.

I booked for HD brows, which is tinting, waxing and threading. I explained that I wanted a more natural, androgenous looking brow than I'd had before, and that I wanted to be able to go without makeup without my brows dominating my face. In the end, the beautician said that she would only charge me for a tint and wax, because they didn't need much work. I'll see if I can get a decent picture.

Here is the finished result.

If you click on the picture, you see actual eyebrows rather than a vague fleshy blur.
