Magnifying mirror shock / skincare advice needed

I just bought myself a 10x magnifying mirror - to perfect my make up, or so I thought. But what has happened is a) I have to get my face so close to it to actually see anything, my nose is almost touching it - not how I want to put my make up on, and b) I can see how bad my skin is and how terrible my foundation looks!

I can cope with the nose hairs and moustache (easily dealt with!), and I've accepted my sun damaged skin (at standard vision "freckles", at 10x dark brown blotches), but my make up just looks so terrible. Even though it looks ok to me under normal conditions, my eyesight isn't perfect any more (reading glasses) and I'm worried those with normal vision are seeing me caked and flakey.

I've never worn much make up, usually tinted moisturiser, but recently have switched to proper foundation (Nars sheer glow) and was pretty pleased with it until this morning. I'm thinking I need to put some effort into my skincare routine to create a better base.

Also, the mirror has revealed clogged pores - like blackheads but not black - on my chin and between my eyebrows.

I know - aren't I gorgeous!

Would really appreciate some skincare advice. I've always had very, very dry skin so am wary of anything harsh, and over the years have tried every moisturiser from the cheapest to the priciest. At the moment I'm using a La Roche Posay cream for my face and that's it, apart from cleansing it at night.

(Also can anyone recommend a better mirror - maybe 5x, so I can put my make up on at a normal distance. Like the ones in hotel bathrooms).

Lol this sounds like me. I discovered a rogue 2 inch dark hair near my chin after examining myself more closely in magnifying mirror. I pulled it out thought nothing of it until a few days later then I found it’s brothers and sisters in a little crop FFS.
I’ve started using a primer under foundation to smooth things out a bit pore wise and it seems to make a little difference.
The best advice I can give is to stop looking in the magnifying side of the mirror and go back to blissful ignorance!

😂😂😂 I would feel more confident about binning the mirror if my eyesight were better!

A prescription from Dermatica. I've had really great service. Sign up to to a subscription, saves all of the costs and time of trial and error. They prescribe and adjust by photos.

Oh slight aside - interesting you say that about the Nars sheer glow. I bought some recently and I do not love it. It sinks into my pores really badly. I use the Nars pure radiant tinted moisturiser which I love, but I do not love the sheer glow at all.

You have to remind yourself that nobody has that good eyesight so you look fine from a distance Grin

Suggest investing in a course of IPL - not the hair removing variety, but the skin rejuvenating kind. It really helps with overall tone & texture.
