Make up to last all day?!

Mid 30’s and feel that regardless of make up I put on my mid afternoon it’s off my face and I get the constant oh you look tired comments from work colleagues. Yes I am tired with life with small children but I want some long lasting makeup to hide this fact! Any advice? What foundation do u think works well.. setting power?
I used either a maybeelline or estee double wear foundation, Estée Lauder eyeliner, urban decay palette neutral eyeshadow, browser, blush etc - no setting powder so maybe this is the issue? I apply with foundation brushes etc
Considering trying to book a make up lesson and feel so mehhhh about how I look at the minute.

Definitely use setting powder. I use Estée Lauder double wear and Laura Mercier setting powder, and my make up lasts all day.

I use a setting spray rather than powder - I like a dewy/natural look so use the Milk make up one with mostly Milk/Glossier make up.

Do you have oily skin? I do, and it needs a bit of extra effort to help things stay in place for a whole day.

This is what works for me:

  • Make sure you're not overloading your skin with skincare before applying makeup. Too many serums, too much moisturiser etc can make your skin slippery before you've even started!
  • Use a primer with decent mattifying properties. I really like the MAC Studio Mattifine primer. Smashbox also does a great Shine Control primer.
  • Use a long wearing foundation. A good way to test the wear of foundation is to put some on the back of your hand, let it dry, then rub. A decent long wear foundation won't budge. I really like the Bobbi Brown Skin Longwear foundation as it's not too heavy a finish for everyday and lasts well.
  • Use powder where you tend to get shiny - usually the T zone. Applying loose powder with a puff in a "press and roll" motion works better for oil control than applying with a brush, it pushes the powder into the skin. There are plenty of YouTube videos on this technique.
  • If you get shiny during the day, you may need to touch up. I always carry Clean & Clear oil blotting sheets (far superior to the paper kind & can be bought on EBay) and Charlotte Tilbury's Airbrush pressed powder.

Hope that helps.

Thanks so much for all the advice and help, will certainly try some ideas and setting powder/ spray. I have quite dry skin so not sure if this is an issue. Is translucent powder same was setting powder? Just realised a make up set I have had some translucent powder in it!

I use MAC Fix It spray to set my makeup, if I fall asleep in it (as I sometimes do) even my eyebrows don't smudge off
