OK, talk to me about foundation....

I have quite dry cheeks, but am prone to hormonal spots. I apparantly have a very odd colour of skin, as no foundation I have ever tried seems to blend into my skintone right. I would say on the whole I am quite pale, but I have a yellow undertone although I can look a bit red sometimes (I put that down to the dry skin!)

I've tried going to Clinique etc to sample the foundations but as soon as I step out into daylight my face turns orange!

Does anyone else have this problem? What am I doing wrong? I just want something that will make my skin look flawless

I use Mac, it's fab. Go to a counter at a big department store and they will thoroughly test them on you

Thanks for the suggestions. I think I need to take a trip into Edinburgh (or any big city really!) to try a bigger range of stuff.

The make-up counters I have tried just seemed so desperate for a sale they would have punted me off with anything, nevermind it looked like war paint when it was on

I will bear in mind those suggestions though.

Virgin Vie One Step Face Base is absolutely fantastic. I went to a Virgin Vie Make Up party and tried a sample. I haven't stopped buying it since.

I've just splashed out on some Bobbi Brown foundation and it is fantastic. Really natural finish (I hate wearing the stuff usually) and lasts well all day. They also have a wide range of colours so you should find something that suits you

I have freckles (which I like) so use tinted moisturiser - No7 Colour correcting tinted mosturiser in fair. It is good but not very covering if you want coverage.

Go to a Prescriptives counter, they make up foundation to suit your skin tone - nothing else works for me, as I am a peculiar red/blue skin tone. see here
