Rosacea skincare routine tips

I’ve been battling rosacea for some time now and have been trying many different home remedies (niamicide/jojoba oil) with no improvement so have finally sought medical advice and have been prescribed soolantra. I’ve only just started using it so cannot comment on its effectiveness but have seen many positive reviews so fingers crossed!

I’m looking for advice from fellow rosacea sufferers on their tried and tested skin care routines.

Currently I wash face in morning with Cetaphil cleanser and rinse off with water, moisturise with Cetraben cream then apply make up.
In the evening I remove make up with Cetaphil cleanser and a warm flannel carefully wiping but not scrubbing! Then 10 mins later apply Soolantra.

Is there anything else I should be doing/ something I shouldn’t?

Also, recommendations for facial sun creams that can be worn under make up?

The challenge is almost everyone finds different products work for them. For example I can use glycolic acid and retinol on mine without aggravating, but others can't.

I've also just started with Soolantra. Just over a week in and I can see changes but it's not yet the holy grail!

On SPF I use Beauty Pie or Altruist (both factor 50) but I've heard good things about La Rose Pochay. LRP skincare products don't do anything to help me although for others they're skin changing.

I do absolutely bare minimum.
Wash with plain tepid water only, no other products on face, except twice a week I use le Roche posay rosaliac iv anti redness moisturiser.. But not on my nose, just on dryish areas.
I'm on lymecycline and avoid triggers as much as possible.
It has got much better since I went through menopause

Would add... I wear make up about once a month, it took years to find stuff tgat didn't trigger it.
I use a very light tinted moisturiser as foundation.
The best skin care is minimal /as little as you can get away with.
Have you tried just washing with water?

And on holiday I only use le Roche posay anthelios ultra light invisible fluid... Anything else is a disaster

Sadly ,I’ve found it’s low dose antibiotics that help me. I’ve been taking them for 10+ years and although I have the odd flare up , my skin has vastly improved to the extent I can now get by with a touch of concealer and powder.

I would just change to cold water - hot is meant to aggravate it I believe. I use Skin and Me - azelaic acid and niamicide and it's working okay; got rid of spots but still a little redness.

Thanks for all your recommendations, I will have a look at the sun creams mentioned.

I use warm-cool water when washing face as know heat definitely aggregates it for me.

I’d love to be able to feel more confident and not wear makeup. I feel masks have made it worse with constant rubbing but feel too self conscious to go makeup free.

I’ve been prescribed the low dose antibiotics as well as soolantra but wanted to keep them as a last resort as worried about the side effects they might have.

Soolantra for 6 months got the rosacea under control. It got a bit worse for about a month before it got better but I hung in there and it really did the trick. No more bumpiness, red areas, spots. It totally worked for me and I can't recommend it enough - thank you MN!

I'd already given up all facial washes as they only seemed to aggravate it. I now use only Neal's Yard Rose Balm as a cleanser on my face at night. A pea sized amount massaged in and removed with a cotton pad or muslin. I then turn the pad over or use a clean muslin corner dipped in warm water and wipe again. Pat dry. No moisturiser. In the mornings I just shower/splash with warm water and pat dry. No products at all.

Make up was also aggravating it and can still trigger a break out. I never used much but now I've gone make up free except on super special occasions eg birthday, big night out. And then I put a tiny amount of the Rose balm on as a barrier before the absolute minimum of tinted moisturiser.

In my 50s, post menopause and my skin hasn't been so good for decades - smooth, more even tone, plumper and no dryness or that tight feeling. Totally converted to 'less is more' regime.

Soolantra totally sorted mine out. I don't have any skincare routine at all and have a fairly good skin now. A couple of years ago I was really upset about my rosacea and after Soolantra have not had to think about it at all. Hope it'll work as well for you.

Can anyone help please. In the warm weather,my face goes really red,the hotter it gets, the redder it gets. In a few weeks time I am visiting family in Turkey. I usually go in May or October when the weather is around the 70's so its not too bad.but in July it's a lot hotter and I will end up looking like a beetroot. Any advice would be appreciated.

Cleanse with Vaseline

Then use a warm flannel to remove excess.

That’s it, it’s the only thing that works for my skin. It’s very dry but highly sensitive to everything, so this causes no issues and keeps the flare ups to a minimum.
