Balayage?

I have balayage, I’m 42. I feel like I just look old with massive roots. How do other people get on with it? Wondering if I’m just too old for it. I had it done as I thought it was low maintenance, but with dark hair I think the dark roots make my hair look greasy. I also have a few greys at the front. Would it be easier just to go dark again! I feel like I’ve lost the plot with my hair! Help!

The hair dresser should be able to advise.

I am similar age and have balayage, get a root tint to cover the greys and think that a slightly lighter colour suits me as I get older so wouldn’t dye it all dark again. But definitely get a consultation with the hairdresser.

I am 44 and love my balayage. I wanted it as a way to let my grey hairs through but still adding a bit of interest with a little colour. It is extremely low maintenance and I just have it freshened up every 6-8 months. I only have a few flashes of blonde throughout, and barely anything out through the top, just a few extra bits at the front. It’s really flattering and I don’t have to worry about roots etc. My hair is a mid-dark brown naturally. I get so many compliments on my hair and I love how easy it all is. The greys are still there and I am happy with that: don’t want to have a full on hair colour. But the blonde highlights add just enough interest to draw your eye away from the greys.

EssexLioness that sounds lovely. I think mine is perhaps overly lightened.

Right, yes that makes sense. I was very insistent that I wanted something subtle, so mine just looks a bit sun kissed, rather than full on balayage. My usual hair colour is quite flat, so without the balayage, the greys are much more prominent and my pale skin looks a little sallow

Do you have a picture of something similar I can show my hairdresser please?

This is the closest I could find. Looks like in the photo they have also added some lighter brown in places too, but this is overall similar hair colour to me, and I just had the blonde added. Mostly because I wanted super minimal upkeep. She added a few more highlights around the face for me too

Balayage?

That’s really nice and more subtle than mine is. I’ve also got dark brown hair so this would work for me I think. Thank you.

Sounds like a good option for you then, glad I could help 😊

I’ve got dark brown hair which is balayage with a lighter brown on the bottom. I know what you mean about greasy roots though. I do touch up my own roots i between appointments so I don’t get the greys coming through. I do think it’s a good way to have coloured buy low maintenance hair.
