Please help - hopeless case! "Dress to impress" invite

I've been invited to a 50th party. The invite says "Dress to impress". I literally always get these things wrong and end up feeling self-conscious.

I'm 5'2", size 12, overhanging stomach that bloats. I prefer my upper arms covered. Most importantly, I can't walk in heels. Shoes are the main problem actually. I prefer wearing flats but I don't feel dressy in them plus I feel a bit stumpy. I can wear low wedges though. Oh and I hate kitten heels.

I'm the sort of woman who lives in running and hiking and dog-walking gear. Please help me dress to impress for once!

I'd go smart black trousers and sparkly top. So I am comfy but not casual.

Hi OP, hope you are getting closer in your searching. I saw this just now and thought it would fit the bill.

[quote Wiredforsound]This is the perfect jumpsuit for me and I’m 5’3”.. It’s a heavy silky jersey one with a Bardot neckline so it’s really easy to get on and off for a wee. It’s VERY flattering and can be dressed up or down with wedges or platforms. I sometimes wear it with chunky loafers or trainers. All you need is some jewellery and you’re good to go.

Oh wow I LOVE this. So you already have this and the length is good on you? I usually avoid jumpsuits because they're always too long and a weird fit on my short frame. But I really really like this.

@Wiredforsound

Though if you REALLY want dress to impress wear a Wonder Woman costume.
If I had the upper arms for it, I'd take you up on this dare!

This is beautiful ‐ I really love it. Unfortunately midi length looks terrible on me because it seems to make me look really stumpy, particularly as I can't wear high heels.

I'm with the silver or gold trainers or brogues gang. Even more so as there's dancing.

Now I have really wide feet. And I swore after the last wedding I was at I would never wear heels again. But then I was a bridesmaid. And I got these - silver, sparkly, dressy. www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B07DL8P346/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?psc=1&tag=mumsnetforu03-21&ie=UTF8

Amazingly comfortable - I wore them and danced in them for 12 hour and not a single blister and my feet did not hurt/ache/pinch one bit. And less than £20!
