what one thing would you advise me to do about my saggy jowls?

I'm mid 50s.

I use Clarins, No 7 or Liz Earle facewash when in the shower and either Boots cleaner or Clarins cleanser at night time.

I'm currently using a serum from Aldi (that Mumsnetters recommended) and No7 Protect and Perfect moisturiser.

I've never been hugely invested in facial care (I spent more time and effort on general fitness) but I am really quite unhappy with my face now.

If I do just one thing to improve things, what should it be?

TIA

I don't see how cream will stop jowls but I (49) have been doing face yoga on and off for the last year and it has made a difference, have a go!

5128gap · 10/01/2022 15:54

Stop buying expensive creams that will make little or no difference and put the money towards either LED tightening (some results) or thread lift (pretty good results) or if treatments aren't for you, accept them, because they're the only way to make a noticeable difference.

Foreo Bear helps mine - or lower facelift. Face creams don’t fix saggy jowls I’m sorry to say! Face exercises are good but you need to to them every day and takes a while to see results…

Its interesting as the idea of stretching your facial skin into extreme positions seems to me a bit counter intuitive. I can see how it would exercise the underlying muscle, but I'd have thought all the stretching would play having with skin elasticity. I'm too scared to try them for this reason!

Play havoc

WhatIsThisPlease · 10/01/2022 16:11

Depending on how bad they are, a bit of filler in your cheekbones will help.

Mine are waaaaay beyond that though. I need a lower face lift.

There's also a procedure you can have done with local anaesthetic where they take a bit of skin off somewhere near your ear and stitch it back up so it's tighter. I'd love that but can't find anyone nearby that does it. It's called a one stitch mini facelift. There's a video on it here:

I am having Radiesse and then once that has settled Scupltra for mine and my cheeks. I used a RF home device and that melted my existing fillers (cheek and jowls) that I'd had years ago and were forming part of my facial structure (until they melted and everything fell south!!)
I. have my appointment in two weeks and cannot wait!!

PandoraP · 10/01/2022 16:48

I am also 50 and second that creams don’t and the Foreo Bear did nothing for me either. Have an appointment to get fillers next week and can’t wait!

@5128gap For the face exercises I do Facerobics on Youtube you use your fingers to hold the skin in place, then gurn and pull your face. This way the skin stays in the same position, your fingers act as 'weight' for your muscles to lift, like a dumbell, and only the underlying muscles are affected.

That's the theory anyway, and when I do it regularly then it definitely works. At one point, after 3 months of regular Facercises, I could raise a querilous eyebrow easily because I had such good control of my face muscles.

5128gap · 10/01/2022 17:42

Thank you Flower. Will give that a go!

Mercurial123 · 11/01/2022 04:40

I've been doing Eva Fraser face exercises for around 6 years (I'm 50). The women in my family get jowls so trying to prevent it. So far it's working.

I've read reviews from dermatologists that the Foreo bear doesn't do much.

Wagsandclaws · 11/01/2022 07:18

I've had a lower face and neck lift 🤷‍♀️ tbf I did lose 6 stone but doing that in my 40's left me with worse skin than I would have had otherwise.

I tried threads and exercises Ect and nothing worked. I hated having my photo taken so I had it done under a local and I couldn't be happier with the results.

WhatIsThisPlease · 11/01/2022 07:32

@Wagsandclaws

Glad you're happy with your results.

I'd love to have this done under a local but have been told it would have to be a general.

Very jealous!!

Wagsandclaws · 11/01/2022 07:42

No you absolutely don't have to have it done under a general. My op was nearly 3 hrs and my surgeon spoke to me all the way through it.

It was my one condition ( that I don't have to have it done under a general ) there are a couple of surgeons up north that do it under general and my surgeon ( Kent ) does most ( except breast and tummies ) under a local.

I was In the car travelling home to Somerset within 45 mins of getting off the table no drains or anything.

The recovery time was a good couple of weeks though - bruises nearly gone Ect.

I'm 4 months post surgery now and scars are looking great, it's absolutely hands down one of the best things I've ever done for myself, I don't feel self conscious anymore.

I've attached a couple of before and afters Smile the split pic shows me in the hotel in the morning and then my daughter took the other photo of me in the car on the way home after the operation. The other two are a before and a couple of weeks after.

what one thing would you advise me to do about my saggy jowls?

Sorry that was supposed to say that there are a couple of surgeons up north that do the op under a local ( not general )

GracieLouFreebushh · 11/01/2022 07:48

Wow wags that's amazing I thought!!Whereabouts are your scars that are healing well? Would you mind me asking the ballpark figure of the cost? It looks like you just Lost a whole lot of years x

GracieLouFreebushh · 11/01/2022 07:48

Results not I thought

WhatIsThisPlease · 11/01/2022 07:52

You look amazing!!!!

I'm up north so will have to try looking again. I don't want a general anaesthetic either.

ErrolTheDragon · 11/01/2022 07:57

Wear a mask, it hides a multitude of chins.Grin
(Joke... but true!)

Wagsandclaws · 11/01/2022 08:15

Yes of course. It was bloody expensive! ( 10.5k ) BUT I had had this issue for 4 years and saved for 2 of them after finding my surgeon.

Scars are on the temple but in the hairline so not detectable at all, they are also in front of the ear but in the crease so also not visible anymore.

I also have scars behind my ear directly which you can't really see as the ear shadow sort of hides them, the only ones which are still quite red ( understandably as it's only been since late September ) are next to my hairline upper neck - they are not raised or anything and I tend to, if I'm wearing my hair up just pull some hair down over them, they are white small now.

I was quite surprised at the amount of places he pulled my skin back and sewed 🤣 he also cuts and stitches muscle in your actual face as well whilst the skin is pulled out and off 🤮 it's all very clever. I want to say it's painless but the recovery in the first couple of days is quite stingy as you'd expect but I wanted it done so much it was a small price to pay.

There was a lady on here who had her jowls done and had a thread at the time ( that was what made me want to get it done so much ) ans she had hers done under local by a surgeon in York for any mumsnetters that are up that way.

Otherwise my surgeon is Amir at Bella Vou in Tunbridge Wells. I used him as he does these nearly every day and I've seen his work so I knew I could trust him.

I've attached another pic of the scars the day after - sorry it did look a bit brutal but honestly within a week it was healing super fast and I was going out ( with my hair down ) and the swelling was much less obvious. I've also done a selfie of me to the side this morning so you can see how well the scars have healed, sorry I've just done my moisturiser Ect so looking a bit greasy 😬

what one thing would you advise me to do about my saggy jowls?

Those scars are so Well placed!! I am saving this thread for future info Thank you wags x

Wagsandclaws · 12/01/2022 08:32

You are welcome Smile I know it's not for everyone but for me it was the only option left, I think if you've exhausted everything else it's definitely worth thinking about.

Bluebluemoon39 · 19/01/2022 15:09

Wow! That's a great result.

Wagsandclaws · 19/01/2022 15:15

@Bluebluemoon39 I'm genuinely so pleased, it's made a huge difference to my self esteem Smile
