How to use retinol

I've bought two bottles of retinol from The Ordinary. Not clear on how to use it though, as the bottle isn't very informative nor is the website.

Are you still supposed to use night cream after this? And if so, don't they just mix together and not work properly?

I’m always on the verge of buying retinol from the ordinary.
I follow this dermatologist & this is his advice… you can contact the ordinary with the products you’ve bought & they can advise on when/how to use them. Apparently they are v helpful

hi, I have been using it for a long time, if you are new to it, start slowly 3 to 4 times a week, I don't use a moisturiser with it, but my skin is used to it, make sure to use spf every day.

If you message them they can help.

My nighttime routine is Buffet, Retinol then Rosehip seed oil. I use about 3-4 drops of each. They should all sink in and don't worry about mixing together. Start slow.

My skin has been fantastic since I started The Ordinary. I had terrible acne and now my skin is clear and glows. I am now looking into going to a cosmetic doctor for a tretinoin prescription as I believe that's meant to be the holy grail of anti ageing skincare.

I've been using retinol from the ordinary for around 2 years now.

I wash my face every night with a soapy cleanser and then just dry my face and apply it. Sometimes I would use a toner first and then apply it to my face like moisturiser.

The retinol I use from the ordinary is quite creamy and moisturising so I don't moisturise over it. I also only wear it at night time whilst I sleep.

what is retinol meant to do to your skin? I'm mid 40's.

GorgeousGoldies · 09/01/2022 16:52

I’ve just bought some from The Ordinary too. I’m washing my face, using toner and then the retinol twice/three times a week as I’ve never used it before. The other nights I’m putting moisturiser on. So far so good, no redness.

I’m never sure if you’re supposed to put it around your eyes though?

I would always need moisturiser as I have dry tenancy skin.

I use prescription Retinol after cleansing. I use 6 out of 7 nights but best to start 2-3.

Cassandra Bankson has good intro videos to Retinol

Some good comments, thank you everyone!

Use moisturiser if you feel you need to and wait until ten minutes after you apply your retinol.

I use Skin&Me retinol and apply moisturiser with a couple of drops of facial oil afterwards.

QuizzicalEyebrows · 10/01/2022 10:16

Yes its quite normal to apply moisturiser over your retinol so that'll be fine.
