Adults who get spots - what skincare do you use?

I used to get the odd spot and treat it with La Roche Posay Effaclar Duo or the ‘Peace Out Acne’ dots. However, I seem to be breaking out over larger areas now so want products I can use all over my face to both prevent and treat spots.

Currently I’m rotating the REN AHA tonic and Origins mushroom lotion then using Prai 24k gold cream. My breakouts tend to be on my chin/jawline and near my hairline. Can anyone advise? Thanks in advance!

Since I started using the ceravie cream to foam cleanser, my skin has definitely cleared! Not sure if that's helpful if you're looking for something to help once the spots are there, but longer term that seems to be helping me!

Most of my products are Geek & Gorgeous (cleanser, exfoliant, Vit C serum) and Facetheory (toner, moisturiser). These help.

Biggest different was huge reduction in sugar in my diet. I didn’t think I ate particularly large amounts of sugar, don’t have a sweet tooth, but went low carb and saw a big improvement. Now if I eat occasional higher carbs in terms of sugar (like a dessert) I can get a small breakout. Not so much if my occasional higher carb isn’t sweet (like a main dish), so I’m assuming it’s the sugar.

I’m not familiar with your products so not 100% what the trigger might be but your spots sound very similar to mine. Do you also have a hormonal pattern?
I use a charcoal soap in the shower every morning and that seems to have a basic antibacterial effect
I seem to be ok with most moisturisers but just favour Sunday Riley CEO
For dry days I’ve discovered Aesop Damascan Rose oil and have had no issues with spots from it.
For evenings I remove my makeup with drunk elephant balm. I tried an oil recently and that was 100% a problem, I think caudalie.
Then I use a toner with a light exfoliating action like Pixi and that helps keep spots at bay. IF I get one which is now infrequent Clean and Clear gel seems most effective

I use zero products, nothing at all. Best way to avoid spots is not to subscribe to skincare industry bullshit.

I'm 46 and have suffered from hormonal acne and oily skin since I was a teenager - it's miserable and a real confidence crusher. In that time I've not found any skin care products that actually got rid of the spots and I've tried loads. The only thing that actually works, for me, is Zineryt from the GP. After years of buying mid to high (ish) priced products, I now use Freederm face wash and moisturiser which is as good as any of the other things I've used and cheaper! I also gave up dairy about a year ago for another reason and this has also noticeably improved the texture of my skin.

Facetheory and Cerave. Less seems to be more for me so I stick to a gentle cleanser from facetheory (the orange one) and moisturise morning and night with Cerave. I find I break out once I start using too many products- even if they’re comedogenic/recommended for acne prone skin. Staying away from alcohol also seems to make a dramatic difference.

Stop using Prai it'll be too heaving for your skin.

I have quite oily skin and breakouts along chin and cheekbone ( from swearing a facemask all day). I use origins foaming facewash and their spot remover. I also use Boots tea tree/charcoal face mask.

I went to the dr for acne treatment.

SirSamuelVimes · 09/01/2022 11:25

I've switched to oil cleansing and it has made a massive difference to my skin.

Spironolactone is effective for hormonal acne, even menopausal acne apparently.
Dd1 -22 has just been prescribed this as her acne has returned 2 years after completing a Roaccutane course.
No amount of skin care can solve hormonal acne though acne topicals can help to a certain extent.

Cerave and Differin cream from GP. Has helped alot.
