Abusive relationship with modern sale cycles(light-hearted)

In my day(quavering voice) full price clothes hit the rails, then gradually went down in the sale until they were out of season but therefore bargains.

I've been in a long distance relationship with a summer dress since autumn. Full price to begin with. So I waited till the sales. It went down on black Friday, but I had no money to buy it. Then back up to full price. Then back down in January. Now back to nearly full price. It's January last year. By all laws of logic it should be the lowest price ever. Why, why, why is it back to nearly full price. I had it in my basket yesterday. I failed to checkout because I went to bed early (and admittedly thought it might go down further)
Am I being unreasonable to expect sales to follow a predictable trajectory?

It's definitely abuse. They want us to buy impulsively when we see it reduced slightly as we don't know when that might happen again or when there'll be a code or it will be sold out.

Some of the advice to wean yourself off fast fashion is to take some time to think about it, very hard with the retailers behaving like this.

The sad thing is it is an item I have wanted (no joke) for fifteen years, so not fast fashion.
But at the same time I refuse to pay full price because things just aren't made for quality these days.
So frustrating.
