I take very good care of my skin cleanse, tone, moisturise, eye cream, serum the works. I drink nothing but water (except for Friday nights) much to my dh annoyance as he thinks l buy any cream that says new formula.

I have got away with a bit of concealer and tinted moisturiser so far but l am 46 soon and think it’s time for a foundation and l have no idea where to start, l think l want to change brand as well. I have been using No7 for maybe 15 years, my bank balance has changed o l could possibly afford a bit more luxury.

I am going to have a look on you tube about applying it but l usually just use my fingers.

What brands do you like? If anyone can point me in the direction of a YouTuber to watch l would be grateful .

I like Bare Minerals! I use a make up egg sponge to apply liquid foundation with a brush for a bit of powder over the top. Clinique is nice too. I’d make a short list of what you like the look of and then go along to a house of Fraser/ John Lewis and play with some testers and talk to the sales staff and get colour matched before deciding too.

I use Revlon ColorStay Makeup For Combination/Oily Skin for daily wear which is a dupe for the much more expensive Estee Lauder Double Wear.

When I want a better finish for going out/special occassion, I use Giorgio Armani Beauty Luminous Silk Foundation but that is £££s in comparison although I find it lasts longer than Estee Lauder Double Wear.

You can use the website Findation to shade match from other brands quite reliably too.

I've ordered Chantecaille tinted moisturiser. It smells divine and the coverage is just right.

I might have ordered a shade too light though ...

I went to my local Boots at the weekend and they have someone who works for all the brands in the beauty hall... I said what I was looking for, she brought a few for me to patch test. When I found one I liked (Laura Mercier as it happens...) she gave me a decent-sized sample - at least a few days, so I've been able to use it the last couple of days as part of my everyday makeup.

I also like Bobbi Brown (sadly not stocked at my local Boots...) and Chantecaille is the absolute best but expensive.

I like Bobbi Brown skin foundation stick. There are loads of shades so I can get a good colour match. It’s also really buildable so I wear just a light coverage for day-to-day and more for a night out. I buff it in using the Bobbi Brown foundation brush.

It's Estee Lauder double wear all the way. I think it's won just about every beauty award going.

They do different types. I use the full coverage foundation for nights out or big events but they have a tinted moisturiser which gives excellent coverage but isn't quite as thick, perfect for everyday use.

It's amazing. Have a look on their website.

Another vote for Revlon colourstay. I try other ones at times but always go back to this as it's so good

Rina66 · 06/01/2022 16:41

I have always used Estée Lauder Double Wear and mixed it up with various other products to make it sheerer or more glowy to suit. However, I was bought Armani Luminous Silk for Christmas (perfect match too, that clever foundation matching site worked a treat) and I have to say it's amazing. I may after 30+ years of Estée Lauder, finally be converted.

ExplodingCarrots · 06/01/2022 16:46

As much as Estée Lauder double wear is one of the best foundations out there , if you've only been using tinted moisturiser all this time then I think double wear will be too much . It's very full coverage (perfect for blotchy red me Grin) .
I agree with something along the lines of Georgio armani luminous silk or Nars sheer glow.

AcatcalledCat · 06/01/2022 16:47

Double wear lover here too. I do switch out to the double wear light version for day wear as it is heavy duty. Use a very small amount and apply with a beauty blender and it lasts all day without fading or getting oily.

Alicatz66 · 06/01/2022 16:51

I know Double Wear has loads of fans ! I find it really heavy ... I find it ageing.. mind you I am 55 !! ..

Ohsugarhoneyicetea · 06/01/2022 16:55

Bare minerals complexion rescue with the bm stick concealer for anywhere that needs more cover. I have found as I have got older that lighter tinted moisturisers look better than full foundation, doesn't settle in lines and looks more glowy and fresh.

StripyHorse · 06/01/2022 20:21

I love Bobbi Brown Fluid to powder foundation in the daytime, dot it on then blend with a brush. It has quite a light coverage.

ChocolateRiver · 07/01/2022 20:32

Agree, I find double wear heavy and ageing too and I’m 40. I find it too drying so need something lighter and more moisturising. You might like it if you’re on the oilier side though.

Me too (except I use a L'Oreal concealer). The finish is lovely, I get lots of compliments on my skin. Foundation is too much for everyday (I'm 50).
Whoswhohere · 07/01/2022 20:40

I find Double wear too heavy but Double wear light is perfect. It's still gives great coverage but isn't cakey on the skin. I thing they might have changed the formula recently though so I'm worried about repurchasing!
