Clone a copy of jeans

Has anyone ever ordered a cloned copy of favourite jeans? If so, what was your experience?

I am plus size but with an hourglass shape. I find it almost impossible to buy jeans (or trousers for that matter) that fit me here. I need extra curvy fit, wide thighs but a narrower waist. The only place I have ever found decent jeans is in the US. I haven’t been able to travel since covid and now my favourite jeans need replacing. Thinking about having them cloned, is this a thing?

Great question & idea @KloppsTeeth
Im also a wierd shape and what I used to do,was buy a much bigger size then get it tailored right in. Doesn't always work though and I've had to go back multiple times.

I do have a couple of "perfect" trousers that I hardly use to save wear and tear,as I know it will be hard to replace. Cloning would be ideal. Love to hear others thoughts!

I hate buying jeans so much!!! Now when I find a pair I like I just buy a second pair from the same shop! Never had a pair cloned, I think it could be difficult as there is so much variety in denim. As I said I just buy the same pair twice!

This is an amazing idea! I’m on about my fourth round of finding a style I like only for them to be discontinued.

I've copied the pattern of plenty of clothes, that's not that hard but jeans are a different beast. I think the challenge with jeans is that a lot of the magic is in the fabric, that's the thing that'll be challenging to replicate. You'd probably be ok if it's 100% cotton but you mention being plus size and an hourglass so I'm guessing there's a good amount of stretch in it to get that perfect fit, even if you find something with the same fabric content and percentage ratios it may not be the same weight or engineered in the same way. I have a couple of Paige and J Brand jeans and their fabric is very specifically made for them, it's not something you can just buy, they'd fit very differently to standard stretch denim.

I think it would be easier and probably cheaper (if you're not drafting and sewing them yourself) to source an identical new pair on eBay or similar. If they're still available new, there's plenty of US forwarding services.

I’ve got a small waist and I always put a couple of darts in the back and sometimes in the front as well.

Machine or hand sew, and it takes under five minutes.

Thanks everyone.

Yes I did wonder about the different denims. The fabric is stretch denim.

I can sew, but have never made clothes and I would imagine sewing denim is quite tricky if you only have an ordinary machine.

Making your own jeans is a thing, you can buy all the different weights and types of denim, and buy all the rivets/hardware/zips.
It can be done on a normal domestic sewing machine unless it's a really cheap lightweight one.
store.closetcorepatterns.com/products/ginger-skinny-jeans-pattern?variant=39419163672710 just one pattern.

Having said that if you can sew, alterations are easier than making from scratch. I've taken jeans in on the centre back waist before to improve the fit.
