I'm sick of wearing make up. How can I look "made up" without it?

I'm 44 this month and just loathe the process of having to put make up on to leave the house.
I'm naturally pale and freckled so do look a bit washed out.
Any tips to look a bit made up ( tinted moisturiser? )
I don't think I can leave the house without mascara though

Tinted moisturiser and a tinted lip balm.

If you don't feel that's enough, semi permanent solutions included eyelash extensions/dyes and lifts, microblading.

LawnFever · 03/01/2022 11:33

You could get your eyelashes tinted so you can skip mascara and your brows waxed & tinted.

LoudSnoringDog · 03/01/2022 11:35

Thanks hasn't considered the lip balm

I think wearing masks all day at work has impacted upon me being arsed to wear make up at all

Not sure about the semi permanent stuff just yet.

I wear very little makeup (although I have loads and love putting on a full face from time to time!) and when I'm wearing "no makeup" I'm using:

Tan-Luxe drops in my moisturiser to stop me looking too wan
I have my brows threaded and dyed
A very little tinted moisturiser around my eyes/nose area
Mascara
Lip balm (I rarely wear lipstick)

I could ditch the last by getting my lashes tinted when I get my brows done, I suppose.

(I'm 43, btw)

Phyllis321 · 03/01/2022 11:40

Tinted moisturiser. Get your lashes permed and tinted. Eyebrows shaped and tinted. You could whack on some multiple product like Nars the Multiple or Benetint on your lips and cheeks. Burts Bees do lovely tinted balms.

Phyllis321 · 03/01/2022 11:41

..I find neat, defined brows make a big difference to looking put together.

Shoobydooer · 03/01/2022 11:46

Was going to say Burts Bees! Recommended by Sali Hughes for staying on under masks Grin. It feels lovely on.

Spray fake tan for face (I’m not sure but I think mine is garnier) 2x a week. Spray on after shower.

Mascara.

Lib balm.

Ovenaffray · 03/01/2022 11:48

Oh and I get brows tinted and waxed once a month

Andtheyalllookjustthesame · 03/01/2022 11:50

If you can afford it in time and money, then an eyebrow tint and shape and eyelash lift and tint, both make people look 'done' but in a way you can't really tell it's not natural. I love the effect on eyelashes.

I have very pale skin too but use a hint of tan (I use the dove one) which gives me a glow with just normal moisturiser. Although I do tend to make my own tinted moisturiser by combining a little moisturiser with a dot of foundation. I use the hint of tan about once a week, a bit more In the summer months (followed by factor 50 so I don't get a real tan or more likely burn)

I love a bit of Benefit Dandelion for brightening my complexion without covering my freckles.

Goldandguns · 03/01/2022 11:52

Focus on the parts that you feel can do with enhancing and skip the rest, so for me brows and mascara are a must, and I have dark circles so concealer as well. Blush isn't a must but helps me to look more alive 😂 since you've mentioned being pale you could just stick to bronzer and some tinted lip balm?

AColdDuncanGoodhew · 03/01/2022 11:52

If you're happy with tinted moisturiser then I'd say that, mascara and a multi use product you can use on your lips and cheeks, something like the Nudestix blush sticks, Bobbi Brown pot rouge or the Trinny London lip2cheek type products.

I'm also very fair and freckly and with just tinted moisturiser look very washed out so need to add on a bit of tint to my cheeks

rc22 · 03/01/2022 12:03

Agree with PP mixing a little blob of foundation into your moisturiser works really well. I find it more effective than tinted moisturiser.

mumda · 03/01/2022 12:08

Don't wear any.

Why isn't a charity doing "No make up Month" as a fundraiser?

Are we so obsessed with image?

Goldandguns · 03/01/2022 13:47

@rc22 what type of foundation works best when it comes to mixing with moisturiser? I tried this once and it made me look ashy, I think it ended up lightening my foundation a shade!

Taoneusa · 03/01/2022 13:48

op, you can buy eyelash tint on Amazon and doit yourself. Use a tinted moisturiser with spf in it…. You shouldn’t be going out without spf on anyhow Smile Olay does tinted spfs.

rc22 · 03/01/2022 13:59

@Goldandguns I use Boots No7 stay perfect foundation.

Kjr33 · 03/01/2022 14:30

Brow tint and shape and maybe lamination and get your lashes done, it’s expensive and a big commitment to keep them nice but all you need to wear daily is lip and cheek colour.

allofthecheese · 03/01/2022 14:31

BB cream, lip balm, curl lashes with curler if can't be be bothered to wear mascara. I also always fill in my eyebrows but that's it.

HipposHaveNipples · 03/01/2022 14:37

I get an LVL lash lift and brow tinting which helps.

madisonbridges · 03/01/2022 14:40

Mascara. A nice pale, maybe peachy, powder bronzer. Whop it on all over. Easy to touch up.

BeyondMyWits · 03/01/2022 14:44

My daughter is 21 and looks amazing, she moisturises her face, puts on false lashes and slicks on lipgloss and she's done, literally 5 minutes tops.

Wetcappuccino · 03/01/2022 14:49

I like a small amount of tinted CC cream mixed with a drop of highlighter and a drop of facial oil (all combined and applied in one). Gives a dewy look. And eyebrows threaded/ tinted monthly.

Floisme · 03/01/2022 14:58

I wore no make-up during the first 2020 lockdown and came out of it with a completely fresh eye as to what does and doesn't work. I now really dislike the 'made up' look on myself - particularly mascara - and can't understand why I ever thought it was an improvement. I'm fair skinned by the way with fair lashes.

That's not to say I've given it up completely but when I do wear it, I stick to lip gloss on both my lips and cheekbones plus some brow make up. Or, if I feel like a bit more drama, I go for a red lipstick.

But I'd never have got here if I hadn't given up completely for a few months. It was an a eye opener in every sense.
