Posture

Happy new year all.

Has anyone here managed to successfully improve their posture? If so please share your secret! I look almost hunch backed. I thought it would improve with losing weight but 5 stone down and it's still terrible. This is one of my New Years resolutions to try and sort it out. I look horrendous in photos and hate having my hair up now as it shows even more.

Before anyone says Pilates, I live rurally and work 2 jobs, the only Pilates class within miles is during a work shift, and I know it has a waiting list. So that's out.

Still saying Pilates though, because it's incredible. I'm hundreds of miles away from my old studio and I really miss it.

Would you do online classes? This is my old group: www.facebook.com/groups/classicalpilatestv/?ref=share

Don't hate me @Ruple Grin but as a Pilates teacher that's obviously my suggestion! This will come across as advertising and I don't mean for it to be that way but as you said you can't get to a class, I have a 6 week online course delivered via my own Pilates App. It is for general posture and beginners Pilates. It is 4 short sessions per week and you can video yourself so I can give you specific modifications. Anyway if you're interested then message me and I'll send full details.

Can you do one physio session where they take you through stretches to improve your posture and then commit to at least three times daily for about 15minutes?
It does work but you need to do little and often to get your body to align properly.
A handy one you can't really do wrong is stand with heels against the bottom of the door ears in line with shoulders then raise your arms one at a time slowly ten times on each side. It forces your shoulders into a better position.

Look into exercises to treat kyphosis. It's about posture and sitting and standing properly. You'll need to strengthen your upper back and maybe tummy muscles or you could end up straining your lower back. You've got to careful so I'd see a physio just to run you through them and to make sure you are contracting the correct muscles. Do them religiously though.

Just marking place as I'm interested to hear all suggestions.
