Badger hair: advice please for my 40s.

My natural colour hair is dark brown and white/steel grey. I stopped box dyes a few years back as I got the silver line within a week. I went on to full head of blonde highlights, very bright, thinking this would do until I hit my 50s, however it's not really working out for me. Its been fun,but is now very overprocessed and snapping off, plus I can't seem to find a great hairdresser.

What do I do now?? Start going light brown? I can't do block colours due to the fast regrowth. Any advice please?

Just to add that I have grown the colour out to grey before, but I hated it, it wasn't a nice colour.

Anyone?

I have dark brown hair at the back and white at the front! I buy a dark blonde box dye and do the whole lot. It lightens the brown and darkens the white so they match, and then as it fades I get a nice bright blonde/ highlights look at the front. You could get an even better effect of you paid a hairdresser but I'm mean!

I would like that, but what do I do now I'm bleached blonde but will have the badger coming through??

My natural colour is dark brown with lots of white too. My white line along the parting comes through within a week.

I use Daniel Field Watercolours to dye it all dark brown. I do this every couple of weeks, patching any white regrowth in between with Magic Retouch spray if need be.

As Daniel Field doesn't have peroxide, it doesn't lighten hair so you wouldn't be able to go blonde, but you could go all dark brown. As there's no peroxide, the hair condition stays good, even with the frequent colouring that I need to keep on top of my regrowth.

The colour isn't flat, probably because the dye takes differently depending on whether it is on my dark or white hairs. I intend to keep going with this until I hit 60 when I am prepared to give up graciously and go white.

I kept my hair dark - odd bits of patchy grey on one side so going much lighter not really worth it. I use esalon to send me 'box' colour so I just do my roots myself at home. They maybe able to help you with your dilemma. You send them photos of what your hair is like and describe what you would like to have and they mix up whatever you need.

I used hair dyes, but use Color Wow to cover over the silver line when it appears. Amazing stuff and extends the time between dyes. I did try the cover up sprays but they are too messy.

I just don't want to go back to fighting the white line again!

I've given up fighting the line. I grew it out during lockdown (about 50% grey), then had a few highlights added as it was a bit dull. I have a silver toner put over the top which blends in the regrowth nicely and means I can easily go 6 months between highlights (although toner doesn't last much longer than a month or so - I use purple shampoo to help). Looks a lot 'softer' than a solid dark colour and suits me better than full on blonde. The grey is definitely visible but I'm fine with that!

@Tenpintonpin can you post a picture please. This sounds like what I need too!

I have done similar to @tenpintonpin. So much easier than fighting the roots which are obvious after 2 weeks of dying. I used a mix of high and low lights initially to blend in the dyed hair with regrowth and an ashy/steel toner to remove brassiness and help blend overall. After 12months I now don't need any more high and low lights so keep on top of it with hairdressers toners every 10weeks with blue shampoo in between. Love the freedom and my hair is in much better condition. The toner gives it a lovely ashy grey tone that suits my skin so much better than blond/yellow tones.
