YouTube work out videos?

Methenyouplus4 · 27/12/2021 09:36

I'm after easy to follow work out videos that are about 20 mins.

I'd quite like a mix of cardio and also some for toning/strengthening.

Any recommendations for basic equipment? I had toyed with getting a kettlebell and resistance bands, but unsure how you decide what weight to get, and not even really sure how to use them if I'm honest!

My fitness level has been good in the past, but have let it slide lately, so recommendations welcome, thank you.

Body fit by Amy and Pamela Reif are my favourites.
I have dumbbells, kettlebells and resistance bands and tbh I use my dumbbells the most. Bodyfit by Amy has loooads of dumbbell workouts and workouts for strength and toning. I started out with lighter dumbbells- 2kg and gradually went heavier. I currently work with 4kg and 5kg ones. I find they're perfect for the workout videos.

Methenyouplus4 · 27/12/2021 09:47

That's really helpful, thank you. I'll check out both of those.

I might start with tins of chick peas and see where I go from there!

I like Team Body Project. I just have dumbbells (2kg and 4kg).

BatshitCrazyWoman · 27/12/2021 14:06

Lucy Wyndham-Read's standing abs workouts are excellent.

Methenyouplus4 · 27/12/2021 16:19

Thank you all, I'm going to have a go at one of these tomorrow morning, I've made a note of all the names and I'm looking at some weights too.

I really like heather Robertson - she has workouts of different lengths and also some programmes you can follow.

I use dumbbells, I've got 3kg and 5kg. I got them from decathlon and they've been fine and weren't too expensive (though weights in general are more expensive than I expected!!)

HarlanPepper · 27/12/2021 17:20

Caroline Girvan. She has four 10 week programs, and several shorter ones. Or you can just mix and match as you like. She has videos of all lengths, plenty 20 minutes ones - some full body, some focusing on upper or lower body, some with weights, some bodyweight only, some cardio, some HIIT. I've been working out with her for a year now and I've never been in such good shape before - and I had been weight training for a long time before that.

moiraswigs · 27/12/2021 17:51

I second Heather Robertson. She has a load of different programmes including a new 12 week challenge starting in January as well as monthly calendars etc which really take the thinking out of it. I've been working out with her on and off since June 2020 and I credit her videos with actually getting me into fitness properly for the first time. I started with just 1 and 2kg dumbbells and have since built up quite a collection!

MissNothing1991 · 27/12/2021 17:56

Growwithjo is great, also has a Facebook group for a sense of community too. She is mainly cardio and the occasional strength. When I started I said there was no chance it would affect my weight, but I've lose 3 stone so far!

Thehokeypokey · 27/12/2021 19:40

Pop Sugar fitness is great as well, huge range of workouts. Very American but their perkiness helps me get through it!

redroses86 · 27/12/2021 19:53

Another vote for Lucy Wyndham Read here. She does everything from 7 to 20 min workouts. Either full body or targeting specific areas. I usually mix and match 2 or 3 of the 7 minute ones.
No equipment needed, it’s all focused on body weight and lateral movements.

Thatswhatmamasaid · 27/12/2021 19:54

Another vote for Heather Robertson and also Gymra.

CDornerFitness is amazing- great range of workouts, strength and cardio and fun personality.

Burgerqueenbee · 27/12/2021 22:38

I love Team body project, good mix of workouts available.
I also enjoy Eva fitness which are no equipment workouts of various lengths.

firealarmhell · 27/12/2021 22:50

I like Popsugar Fitness too. Lots of different workouts with different instructors, when you love a particular workout you could probably find them on their own platform.

I prefer body weight 2 x week and hand weights up 4kg 3 × week. I enjoy:

  • blogilates (for short body weight workouts)
  • madfit (for weighted workouts)
  • Jake Dupree (cardio and weights)
  • Raneir Pollard (weights)
Methenyouplus4 · 27/12/2021 23:20

Wow, thank you all so much- I'm going to be spoilt for choice!

I did used to love Body Pump, but the logistics of getting to a session don't suit my life right now. I have tried to love jogging (did s half-marathon), but it mostly feels more like a punishment than pleasure, I much prefer long walks.

Looking forward to trying out all of the above.

I like Coach Kel for barre/pilates stuff and no bloody jumping (my poor knees and my poor downstairs neighbours)...

I found her after doing Joe Wickes with the kids in the first lockdown and went searching for something I enjoyed more - my essential criteria were: has to be fun, no jumping, and no inane chat once the exercises start!

HaroldMeeker · 28/12/2021 09:51

You've got loads of great suggestions already but take a look at Hasfit on YouTube. I love the mix they offer.

Sunnycats · 28/12/2021 16:20

Another one for Heather Robertson- I love her workouts and so much choice. I especially love the no repeats ones and lots of low impact but still high intensity too. Also second Caroline Girvan too, I flip back and forth between them

Squiz81 · 28/12/2021 16:24

It’s not YouTube- but the FitOn app is great, you can select what your aims are and then there are loads of videos (I have only ever used the free version)

professionalnomad · 28/12/2021 22:22

Another vote for Team Body Project

wincarwoo · 31/12/2021 20:11

For a good starter programme I recommend the lovely FitnessType.

PerpetualStudent · 31/12/2021 20:38

Another vote for Lucy W-R here.
I also love ‘Sharona’s Hill’ it might not be quite what you’re looking for but she does a lot of 10-15 min dance workouts with songs from musicals, Disney, pop songs etc - they are amazing little bursts of energy for days when you’re not in the mood!

If you miss body pump I really recommend Les Mills on Demand - it costs about £12 a month but has a massive range of programmes on there. I started doing Pump workouts with a couple of old hand weights I had, but I then treated myself to a set of barbell weights (about £70) and being able to do proper pump sessions again (after years of missing out due to pregnancy/babies and now living very rurally) has been incredible!

Gonnagetgoing · 31/12/2021 21:05

The Body Projecf I found recently on YouTube. Australian tutors. The man focusses mostly on boxing moves but it’s cardio bars too. I’ve actually stuck with them as opposed to other sites.
