Philips Lumea Help!

I am looking to buy a Lumea in the sale but I am so confused with all the different models and price range.

I want to be able to use it on legs, underarm and bikini area. Which model is the best? There is a £200 price difference between so e of them. Do I need the more expensive one or are the lower priced models just as good?

So looking more I think the difference is the advanced or the prestige.

The cheaper ones don’t come with all the different heads. Do you need these and use them, or do people generally use the same one for most areas?

I have a lumea and it was a game changer.

Ive got the advanced just after the prestige came out. Mine has two heads which is fine. The main difference between the two is that one is rechargeable.

Good luck.

No advice but placemarking as I want to do the same!

I’ve got the advanced for £200 last year on offer. It’s has two heads, a face and body one. I use it everywhere and don’t find it difficult to do underarms or bikini line with the body attachment.

I think the bigger pice uplift is for corded vs rechargeable. I went for the corded one as a I read that the rechargeable batteries can stop working if you don’t charge them regularly.

I’m really hairy in part as Asian background and I’ve got PCOS on top. Struggled for years. Shaving looked awful (talking thick black hairs on light skin). Epilating took too much time and ingrowinghairs. My tash - bleached it but swapped black for platinum blonde.

Used lumea with trepidation and it’s worked. Less time investment and now just maintain the odd hair. Tash gone. Really gone.

You need to have dark hair on light skin. Doesn’t work for everyone. Where I’ve gone grey (a few in armpits) it won’t work.

So used on tash, armpits and legs. Haven’t tried bikini. Legs super smooth now.

Thank you all. Think I will go for the Prestige model because you can use it with or without cord.

Does it still leave a dark shadow where you have removed the hair? Underarms in particular always look dark where the hair is under the skin.

I've got Prestige, you have to remember to charge it regularly or the battery gives up. I usually use it with the cord although without is handy for backs of legs or bikini line.

It's great though, I barely do my underarms and lower legs now, the hair hardly grows back and when it does it's really fine. No shadow or stubble.

I have the Lumea BRI949. Got it for about £250 a few months ago at Boots (all Lumea models were discounted then, and they were doing a 10% off everything on top).

I’ve used it 5 times now and it has been worth it already. I have light olive skin and dark hair. It has worked well on my chin hair and bikini area (hair is dark and thick in both areas).

I found the attachments very useful, particularly the one for the face. They make it easier for the device to get in contact with the area you want to treat. If there is not enough contact (i.e., head too large for the body area you are treating), the light won’t flash. When I forgot to change the attachment from bikini to face, it didn’t work for that reason. But I think most models come with at least 2 attachments.

If your skin is a little bit darker than, say, a MAC NC35 skintone, you may not be able to tolerate the highest setting. My Lumea goes up to 5 in strength, which is fine on my face/overall body (NC20-25 skintone and dark hair, think Sandra Bullock’s colouring), but I can’t go above 3 in my bikini area where the skin is darker (think Salma Hayek skintone). The Lumea itself tests your skintone and shows which strength to go for, and it always suggests a lower strength on areas where my skin is darker. So if your skin is medium toned/not too light, or your hair not too dark, you won’t benefit from higher settings which are only available on the more expensive models.

Another feature of the most expensive Lumea is that it can be used cordless. Personally this wouldn’t make a difference for me, so I went with the model just below in terms of price, and don’t regret it.

Does this hurt bikini area? I currently epilate but wondering if I should consider upgrading

I didn’t think it hurt. I hope not!

It doesn’t hurt. It warns you that it might sting, but I’ve never felt anything.

Total game changer for me. Got my prestige in the 2020 Black Friday sale, used it diligently throughout winter and the results really paid off this summer. Brilliant product, so glad I got it.

Shuttheblinds · 27/12/2021 00:13

Great reviews thank you. I am ordering it now.

Love mine. I've got a prestige a couple of Years old, prefer to use it plugged in as it's faster.

Nothingventurednothinggained · 27/12/2021 00:47

I have the Braun one. It is absolutely brilliant!
