Revlon one step styler - am I missing something?

I got this for Christmas based on rave reviews and was really looking forward to using it, but it....doesn't really do anything for my hair?

I have shoulder length hair, fine but a lot of it. I wanted to use the styler to "finish" and smooth my hair a bit as it tends to get fluffy/frizzy.

However it is less powerful than my hairdryer even on the highest setting. Doesn't seem any better than just using a hairdryer and a brush.

Am I doing something wrong or is it just not very good? Confused

I got it for Christmas too and I really like it. I have frizzy hair and found it good but I did need to use straighteners too. I found it useful as I don't know how to dry hair with brush and dryer so found it useful to have just 1 thing in my hand rather than battling brush and dryer together.

Glad it works for you, reading some posts/reviews it seems to be good for some and not others. Interesting you say you still need to straighten - this was what I was hoping to avoid. I was looking for something kind of in between a hairdryer and a straightener.

OP, I have mid length fine and soft hair and Revlon doesn't work for me either. I bought it as a spare for my Babyliss BH. Sticking with Babyliss.

I have fine hair and lots of it too - I have to blast dry my hair to roughly 70% dry and then finish drying with the one step dryer- it might work for you?

UserThenLotsOfNumbers · 26/12/2021 10:45

Ah that's a shame Skinny. I guess it works for some and not others! user, yes that's what I did...no joy sadly. I'm going to try again tomorrow but if my hair still looks rubbish I'll return it. Shame!

My hair is a wavy, not quiet curly fizz ball
It does help but I do have to run the straighteners over it
Makes life a lot easier as I don’t have to use a brush

Pinkclarko · 26/12/2021 11:08

I got one too. Same hair, lots of frizzy hair. It’s fine to quickly dry my bob without using a hairdryer but have to go over it with straighteners (still have to section it too). I think the sleek finish my only apply to those with silky straight hair who need less heat and effort to achieve this overall effect.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 26/12/2021 11:38

Did you get the original one or the small we one? Apparently the smaller one is a bit crap.

I LOVE mine ,but I dry my hair with the hairdryer and then finish off with the One Step.

In fact mine blew up yesterday and I ordered a replacement immediately, it's coming tomorrow thanks goodness!!

WensleydaleCrumbs · 26/12/2021 12:06

I love mine. It gives great volume and straightens the majority of my hair. I do run the straighteners through if after you reduce the 'fluffiness' but that's a 2 minute job rather than a 30 minute one.

Hopefully you'll find a technique that works for you :)

Snoopsnoggysnog · 26/12/2021 12:09

Doesn’t work for me either and neither did the Babyliss big hair, I ended up selling them.
My friend raved about her Revlon, a few months later she had lots of broken hair and little bald patches. So she got rid of it too.

I'm the same, and love my One Step. Don't need to use straighteners afterwards though.

I like using it in conjunction with my Parlux hairdryer, the brush is really grippy with nice long bristles (never found a normal round brush that could get through my hair) and it dries the hair really quickly with air coming from both directions, although I sometimes just use it switched off!

Me too. Had a Babyliss but have thick hair and it kept pulling it. The Revlon is so much better for my hair.
Singinghollybob · 26/12/2021 13:52

I've got one. I find it gets my hair smoother than using the hairdryer and brush but that's probably because I'm ot very good at blowdrying my hair.
I do have to blast it with the hairdryer first though.
I should stop using it though as it has cased my hair to break and there's are lots of flyaway hair's now, and so I don't think it's good for my hair

UserThenLotsOfNumbers · 26/12/2021 17:37

Thanks for all your replies Smile I guess I'll be sticking to my hairdryer and brush!

I use a hair dryer to blast dry 80%, then section and finish with the Revlon. There are some useful videos on YouTube, which might help

carrottopper · 26/12/2021 22:50

I have one. I found I had lots of breakage and my hair was in rubbish condition.

Coffeepot72 · 26/12/2021 22:57

I also have the Babyliss BH, and if I use this I need to use straighteners afterwards to avoid the bouffant look, but if I use the Revlon then no straighteners required
