Help - hair failing out (early 30s woman)

Just that really: help!

I had a baby about 4.5 months ago and stopped breastfeeding a month ago. Over the last few weeks every time I brush or even just run my hands through my hair, lots comes out - and it’s worse in the shower.

I have thick, somewhat wavy, somewhat frizz prone (Caucasian) hair. Well, that is to say it WAS thick - it already feels much thinner.

Can anyone give me anything to help?

This is postpartum hair loss. It is normal and it will go away. You can continue to take prenatal vitamins and ask your pharmacist for a medicated shampoo containing Minoxidil.

You can ask the dr for a blood test if it doesn’t regrow. In 3 months you should have an inch and a bit of re growth.

Totally normal after a baby sadly op

When you are pregnant your hair doesn’t fall out at all, then all the back log falls later.

Get tested for iron deficiency- wreaks havoc with your hair

Fluffycloudland77 · 23/12/2021 21:28

Every time dh is admitted to hospital my hair sheds, not in clumps but enough that I walk in the kitchen, look at the floor and think wtf. 3 times it’s fallen out and come back.

I take iron anyway, ferrous fumarate at night.

My gp recommended a silica supplement for exactly this and it worked a treat.

I have a baby roughly the same age as yours and I’m dreading this bit, it’s already starting with me Sad As everyone else says, it is normal, extra vitamins could help. A lovely friend of mine gave me some of the Philip Kingsley thickening shampoo set for my birthday and it does boost things up a bit and makes me feel a bit less shit about the hair loss!

Can you please say what supplement you were recommended?

I know M&S we’re doing the gift sets for Christmas so may come up in the January sale?

*were 🤦‍♀️

I used these, which I found at my local pharmacy. There are lots of brands that do silica on its own but most hair and nail tablets will have silica in them.
