First bra fitting, Central London

Any ideas of decent places to go for a first bra fitting for a teen? We aren’t in a rush and can wait until things are better Covid wise.

I think she’s probably a 28D or DD. It would need to be somewhere that sticks this size. Not M&S because their bras and bra fitting make me angry. Or should I suck up my hate and try some of the Angel bras?

I don’t think Rigby and Peller would work as they don’t tend to go that low in back and cup, same for Bravissimo. Has anyone had any luck with John Lewis Oxford Curcus? Or Selfridges?

I could try myself but that means I’ve got to buy lots of bras to try on at home. I did that with Royce I think it was and none of them fit.

She wants soft cup as she prefers Holister bralets or crop tops. Molke didn’t work out although I had high hopes. ( I’ve got an unworn xs in the cupboard.)

Also…does it matter if she doesn’t wear a bra and continues to wear crop tops? She’s got a pull on sports bra for PE.

oh, Rigby and Peller was always the dream for me but I did wonder if they would actually have anything. I might stop dithering and go for Design Also and/or R&P.

Wimbledon is probably a bit far for us as we are quite central but tell us as I sometimes go to W, but not with DD.

Katherine Hamilton do bras in 26DD.

They are eyewateringly expensive so I keep an eye out for their sales (last one was black Friday I think) and if you use the voucher code BOOBORBUST you get an extra 40% off which brings them into a way more affordable bracket.

If she doesn’t much like them and doesn’t like the idea of a fitting, could you stick with bralettes? I am a 28E and find them so much more comfortable.

OrangeSyringe · 07/01/2022 19:16

Do you think that’s okay Trisolaris. People get so animated about bras. My holy grail was to find a comfortable bra that fitted and supported and looked nice. DD just wants comfort and likes her talent thinhmgys.

That’s a great money off voucher Clive, thank you.

A lot of people have been moving towards bralettes since lockdown and realising that they are so much more comfortable. My best friend wears them most days too and is much bigger than me. There are a few other mumsnet threads saying similar. I find the Calvin Klein bralettes really comfortable (I also wear sports bras for running). Other people have mentioned Sloggi who also have a sale like CK. You can always take her for a fitting in a few years when she is more comfortable if she isn’t ready (emotionally) yet? I have some bravissimo bras too in 28E/F

Update.

Rigby and Peller: great at what they do. They got DD correct size by site within seconds. They knew exactly which bras and in which sizes and makes to you for. She’s not the same size across styles. She now knows what a good bra should look like and how to get into one: lean forwards and move your breasts o to it.

On the negatives the bras are too much money for a first bra at £80 or so each. I may have bought one if I felt that DD would wear it, but R&P are known for fitting tight on the underband. I felt that her first bra away from crop tops had to be wearable.
They also needed to see her chest and handled her breasts into the cups without asking her.

We then went to JL to look for ourselves. The bras look cheap and itchy in comparison. Most of them were mesh, not good if you don’t want to show your nipples when changing fir PE. There were NONE in stock in a 30D and very few in a 30C or 32D or DD. A fitting would have been useless as they wouldn’t have had anything to fit her in!

Next was a bit better and we got a pack of three cotton bras without underwire or padding for £30. We bought the only pack in a small size. I’m going to go online and get some more. They do 30 snd 32 backs in C, D and DD.

Primark were just odd in shape. Cheap, no support, lumpy seams, not the right sizes.

I am going to look at the stock has in Fenwick and Selfridge. If they’ve got a lot in her size I’ll take her there next time, if not I won’t bother! She’s not going to go up a back size so it’s the cup and fit style we need advice on.

I’ll call Design Also too for next time, to see what they’ve got before we make an appointment.

I hope this helps!
