Hello! Please can you tell me your best running trainer recommendations! I have slightly wide feet and am after something sturdy but comfortable! TIA

I have wide feet and run in Altras. To be honest you should visit a running shop so they can do a gait analysis. They can tell you what shoes would suit.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 21/12/2021 21:55

I could recommend the trainers I like, and 10 other runners could come along and recommend 10 other trainers, 9 of which won’t suit you. I’d invest a couple of hours and £100 in going to a running shop and getting your gait analysed, and trying on a few pairs. It will be time and money well spent.

Wolfiefan · 21/12/2021 21:59

Definitely gait analysis. I loved my Brookes though.

EmmaStone · 21/12/2021 22:00

Yup, running shop. Decent trainers and a decent sports bra and you're good to go 😁

AuntieStella · 21/12/2021 22:05

Are you nearba branch of Runners Need? They do gait analysis, which isn't a magic bullet, but it's handy to know if you need a neutral or supportive sole. They can also talk to you about other features of the shoe (amount of cushioning, drop, weight, carbon plate etc) you can try loads on, and they dont do hard sell, so you can go away and think about it. Other running shops (often independents) do similar.

For a wide foot consider men's ranges - the shoes are very similar, but men's are made on wider lasts. You then get the advantage of being small in the men's range and so more likely to find discounted pairs in line. But do remember to go one size up - comfier to have the extra toe space

yoshiblue · 21/12/2021 22:21

I wear mizuno trainers - they were wider than the ASICS I originally tried.

Got a really good deal on SportShoes .com as they sell a lot of previous season trainers.

WhoppingBigBackside · 21/12/2021 22:39

Go to a proper running shop and get your gait analysed. I like Asics and Saucony but they need to be the right model for you. I wear neutral ones

My local running shop is staffed by runners.

If you are just starting out don't spend lots on a pair - my feet grew, and your running style will settle. If you are a serious runner you'll go through shoes quickly and I found saucony to be shoes that I got more mileage out of.

If you overpronate you'll probably like Brooks

Watch with Sports Direct - the quality is variable. They sell fashion trainers mainly

WhereAreWeNow · 22/12/2021 08:22

Definitely go to a proper running shop. Even if you're new to running it's worth doing. They'll be able to do your gait analysis and tell you if you need support or neutral shoes. Personally I like Brooks but it's a very individual thing. Depends on your feet, your gait, the terrain you're running on etc.

purplesequins · 22/12/2021 08:29

definitely go try a few.
I have wide feet and am happy with asics.
make sure the shoes are long enough, you need a thumb width space between big toe and tip of shoe.

good luck!

purplesequins · 22/12/2021 08:30

and if the lady's shoes are not wide enough, try the men's styles as well.

superram · 22/12/2021 08:32

I wear brooks ladies wide fit. I have ghost for short runs and adrenaline gts for longer runs as I primate when tired.

superram · 22/12/2021 08:33

Pronate. Definitely get your gait analysed.

WhiteCatmas · 22/12/2021 10:57

You don’t need to wear men’s shoes if you have wide feet.
Try Altras. They are actually designed for women’s feet. They have a wide toe box.
Women are not small men. Enough of that crap.

Gait analysis OP and then look at sportsshoes.com

HMG107 · 22/12/2021 11:09

I have wide feet and prefer Brooks wide fit. I find asics are ok for day to day wear but aren’t roomy enough for running.

If you like a deal I also recommend having a gait analysis at a shop and then looking online for your trainers, inc at sportshoes.com.

WhoppingBigBackside · 22/12/2021 11:12

A man's shoe will be wider at the heel as well so get a wide woman's shoe. A good running shop will advise.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 22/12/2021 12:04

I completely agree, I’m a 9, it would be so much easier just to wear men’s running shoes, but they do fit a bit differently. Women’s 9/10s are usually found on the shelf with the hens teeth and rocking horse poop.
