Serum instead of moisturiser?

Anyone use just a serum & no moisturiser? I have particularly sensitive skin & find a lot of moisturisers break me out so considering just using a serum instead?

If it’s enough for you then no harm in it. What will you be doing for SPF?

WineGetsMeThroughIt · 21/12/2021 09:49

No. Serum doesn't really provide any moisture. My face would be so dry if I didn't use a cream

I’d need moisturiser as well but everyone is different. Maybe look at something like nivea or maybe an oil such as rosehip/Marula if serum alone starts to feel a bit drying?

Tinks15 · 21/12/2021 10:14

I always use a SPF I never moisturise in the morning only before bed but just find every single moisturiser I’ve tried ends up clogging my skin!

Maybe an oil is the way to go didn’t think of that.

If it’s for night then yes, try an oil. That’s a much better idea.

I never use moisturiser! Just caudalie radiance serum or vitamin c serum, Or a peptide serum.

Sometimes in winter at night some trilogy rosehip oil, on face, neck and hands. Just a tiny bit.

I rarely use a moisturiser after a dermatologist advised me to use serum instead. I have oily skin and don't need it. I find a hydrating serum followed by SPF is quite sufficient.

Occasionally I will use moisturiser if skin feels dry and I do use it regularly on my neck which is dryer

Tinks15 · 21/12/2021 18:13

@PlayItCool can I ask what serum you use?

@Taoneusa I wonder if caudalie would be suitable for my skin. I will have a look at this

Currently Cerave hydrating but also like LRP vit C (watch out for staining if you wear a white shirt tho!)

It depends if your skin is dry (ie lacking oil) or dehydrated (ie lacking water) Annoyingly it can be both, especially at this time of year.

Often moisturisers for dry skin are way too rich for me and break me out, but those for dehydrated skin work. Look for oil free / gel creme formulations and stuff with really obvious ‘watery’ names like ‘hydro-quench-aqua-boost’ and often in light blue packaging.

The caudalie is lovely, gives a glow, good also if you have a bit of hyperpigmentation.

I’ve recently discovered squalene, has made my hands incredibly soft.

I think it’s fine and a lot of spf products are enough but might be worth trying a gel cream if you want something more. Rovectin clean lotus cream is my favourite but I’ve heard good things about versed dew point too and would like to try that. I use oil or a ceramide cream at night.
