What to tell a personal stylist appointment?

So, after loads of people on here said how good a John Lewis personal shopper / stylist is, I've booked one next week. It's a virtual appointment, I think they give you loads of ideas and a list at the end, then you buy what you want.

What info do you think is helpful to give the stylist, to try and get the most out of the appointment? They've already asked stuff like sizes, hair and skin colouring, colours I like, and my "personal style" (if I had any style, would I be here?!)

I'm thinking about doing this. What are you looking for clothes for? Is it an event, winter wardrobe, weekday/weekend clothes, work clothes? What items do you need? I guess that's what I will be thinking about. I think it would be helpful for them to know what your lifestyle i.

For personal style, I’d think about anyone whose look you admire or styles you’re drawn to but perhaps don’t know how to achieve in a way that works for you. It shouldn’t stop the stylist from experimenting and using their own judgement but it might help them find things that feel more you if you can give a little guidance. So are you drawn to classic styles, a more rock n roll look, Swedish architect and so on? Sharp structural clothes or soft drapey neutrals? And so on. Then lifestyle and practical considerations. You could have a look on Pinterest.
But if if you really aren’t sure then I wouldn’t worry, the stylist will suggest things.

Thank you both, some things I wouldn't have thought of there. I suspect I'm not alone in doing this because a) I've gained weight over lockdowns, and b) I've become too casual due to all the WFH. So I'm looking for stylish that covers both WFH and office, and things that actually fit Grin

I wouldn't have thought of suggesting people whose style I like. I'll give that some thought over the weekend.

I did manage to note down colours I love/hate, fabrics ditto, and the fact I hate polos or crew necks!

I just had a stylist appointment. I think what I’ve focused on is buying a capsule wardrobe that works for my lifestyle. I used to work in an office and now don’t work. My life consists of school run plus dinners with friends. So now I’ve focused on having really good basics - jeans / trousers / jumpers / coats / blazers / white shirt - all in neutral colours. I bought quite a lot of stuff. But honestly since then I have felt I always have stuff to wear. I don’t really feel like buying anything now because my wardrobe just works better - I wear loads more stuff because the basics help
It hang together.

Hope that helps !
