I am currently pregnant and my skin has completely changed, can anyone recommend a gentle cleanser for dry skin prone to acne/spots

I’ve not had acne before so no idea what brands are recommended or work well. At the moment I’ve got painful spots all around my lips and side of my cheeks - someone put me out of my misery and recommend me a product that works please!

Cerave hydrating cleanser is lovely

Ring your dr, prescriptions are free but you need to jump on acne straight away or the infection is harder to shift.

Thanks fluffy but I’m not sure I can use anything prescription strength as I’m pregnant, hence looking for something gentle but effective

I’ve heard good things about cerave generally but will it help spotty/acne skin?

I'd say go the Korean way – they believe that a healthy barrier and extreme hydration help acne.

I'd use an oil cleanser like Drunk Elephant Slai Cleanser.

Miscellar, foaming cleansers etc will only dry you out further.

Actually there are some actives that are safe in pregnancy such as azelaic acid which is great for acne and bha (salycilic) in small doses (up to 2%).

Superdrug vitamin E hot cloth cleanser would be good, or the similar one in a green tube, naturally radiant I think.

I used body shop teatree range while pregnant to great effect - combination of hormones and mask wearing destroyed my usually very low maintenance skin.

Fluffycloudland77 · 18/12/2021 05:58

There’s a few pg safe prescription products.

Cerave is amazing and gentle. Was recommended to me by gp and cleared up my skin and isn’t too expensive

NewlyCat · 18/12/2021 10:06

I came out in hives from Cerave! I think it works well for lots of people but my post-hives googling suggests lots of other people have had reactions to it as well. I'd do a patch test of whatever you decide to get before using it all over

Also came here to recommend an oil cleanser. The Pure rose balm cleanser from M&S is lovely and very inexpensive. I tend to use that followed by the Pure hot cloth cleanser when my skin is bad (I don't suffer with acne in the truest sense, but go through phases of quite bad spots) and it really helps soothe and clear my skin.

toastfiend · 18/12/2021 14:26

Should add, stay away from anything too harsh or drying like a foaming cleanser. They always make my spots a million times worse and my skin tends towards being dry too.

Try cereve range it has been amazing for Dd face.

mowglika · 18/12/2021 20:43

Thanks the cerave sounds like a good choice, I normally love oil cleansers but I’m afraid they’ll dry my skin further.

I do have azelaic acid serum by the ordinary which I could use if it’s safe cos pregnancy, I thought it was mainly for use in fading dark marks.

I will try the cerave but still also on the look out for cream type/hydrating cleanser with acne fighting properties if anyone knows of any.

I use The Ordinary squaline cleanser it is a cream and then you warm it into your hands it becomes an oil and apply it to dry skin. Rinse with warm water. I don’t know how it would be on your skin op but there is a small one that’s around a fiver so if it’s rubbish for you then not too much wasted cash.
